From what I heard ( although may not be true ) he did have bit of an accident in thetunnel so may not have been able to go that extra 50 meters or so
The blowing of the tyre within the tunnel may have sounded like an accident to some

Westbound tunnel opened Friday evening but subject to 30 MPH speed limit, so still expect traffic to be slow.
