M1 new central reservation

I thought it was in the village of Meriden, oh well. How do they measure that? If you look at google maps, it’s twice as far to Berwick as it is to Portsmouth! Same for the Welsh border to the east coast, Norwich area.

Don’t know mate but the Ordnance Survey claim that Whitendale Hanging Stones in the Forest Of Bowland as the centre of the UK however this can be open to interpretation.

You’ve changed the criteria Steve mate. You first said centre of England, now you’ve said centre of the UK. I certainly wouldn’t want to push an egg with my nose over the difference!

I thought haltwhistle was the centre of the UK! My mate lives there & he’s always banging on about it. Regardless of anything living in Newcastle I don’t consider Stockport to be up north, north of Birmingham yes, North of England no.

Baggie:
but I can’t recall seeing it in use anywhere else.

Me and my big mouth, ran from Brum to Stockport this morning,(don’t often go oop north ),everywhere I looked…Purple Tubing
:unamused:

And you still haven’t been oop North, you may have headed north, but Stockport is in the Midlands surely.

If you want to consider Lancashire as the Midlands then yes it is.

Ain’t Stockport in Cheshire not Lancs ?
Or have they moved it since I retired

SteveBarnsleytrucker:
Just been on Google and the centre of England is actually Fenny Drayton in Leicestershire. It used to be in Coventry.

I drive past Fenny Drayton every Tuesday …trust me on this…it has never been in Coventry
It’s far too posh for a start

Sorry I ment the centre of the UK used to be in Coventry Meriden as Billy Hunt says

Know what you meant Steve  Just continuing the pedantry running thru’ this thread

Well you cannot be talking about me, if I was being pedantic I would have said the centre of England, including islands, is at grid ref sp36373.66,96143.05 using a scale of 1:625000.
Or thereabouts

I hope that you’ve taken into account magnetic variation (of the magnetic north pole),which I’m sure you know,is currently 11’ (that’s minutes of arc,of course ) easterly.
If you have disregarded this, then your post is,quite frankly, irrelevant.

Come come my friend, now who’s being pedantic? Of course it’s all been taken into consideration. The fact of the matter is the centre fluctuates depending on tides, erosion etc. That aside you have to agree that Stockport is not oop North, if you don’t agree I’m going to hold my breath until you do. :open_mouth:
