+1 it’s the lemming mentality

I wonder how many in the queue stretching back near enough to Northampton noticed the stains on the road beside the s’bound exit slip at 14 and realised where they were?
Not many, cos it’ll never happen to me cos I’m a brilliant driver and it’s always the other git who drives like a brainless pillac.

We didn’t design and build an expensive multi lane motorway network for people to want to drive on it at 55 mph or less.It just defeats the object and makes it a pointless liability creating dangerous bunching with no upsides.

Exactly.
If they aren’t in a hurry, use the A roads.
So it would have been better all round if the mini bus had been batting on flat out with the driver trying to push the throttle through the floor to eke the very last bit of downhill impetus like you see so many bulging eyed attendants of lorry steering wheels doing to get 1 space in front
It’s probably as well we have lorry limiters now, can we imagine what things would be like with the stressed to buggery types out there who haven’t got a second to spare, still bunched up and 6ft from the vehicle in front holding them up at 74mph

As the logic in the US went, when they removed the double nickel limit,55 mph is still fast enough to kill anyone but slow enough to make them think they’re safe.Add to that the extra bunching caused by too much traffic, all trying to run at the same speed on the same bit of road, then you’ve got a worse recipe for disaster.
While speed limiters and silly speed limits ain’t the way to fix tailgating.Or for that matter anyone using a motorway,on the basis of taking the no stopping rule literally, along the lines of green light, situation normal, rail type conditions. As we’re seeing now on our motorways almost every day.

Carryfast I do find you amusing and you certainly have a way with the English language.I am just glad I did not go to your school!
Lets try and look at these problems logically.Drivers who want to do 55mph are quite entitled to do so as long as they are in the inside lane. There is no minimum speed limit on a motorway unless signposted.
What is unacceptable is other drivers who harrass and intimidate them simply because it does not suit them.
How do we fix tailgaters? Until technology takes over we fine them heavily and reoffenders should be taken off the road.
There are also the ones that travel too close to the vehicle in front(that is different to tailgating by the way) but can still have disastrous concequences when something unexpected happens.
As someone quite rightly said on another thread the drivers doing the dangerous driving may be totally unaware and think they are quite safe.Complacency can be a dangerous component.
The main problem most of the time on the road is the driver. They cannot control themselves when they are driving.
They will not ease off, they will not slow down and they ignore the rules of the road.
Its no wonder these horrendous accidents happen and its only luck that prevents even more and certainly not driver skill.
My apologies to the safe drivers who are aware of the dangers.
Damon.

If the Fed Ex truck was in lane 2 how did he push the minibus under the rear of the AIM truck which was in lane 1 ?We’ll need to wait for the details of the prosecution’s case against the Fed Ex driver before anyone knows for sure what lane he was in before and at the point of impact and the exact circumstances as to how he seemingly collided with the minibus and the stopped AIM vehicle.
As it stands no one has a clue except the prosecutor and the Fed Ex driver and possibly his employers.
WHAT !! I DON’T BELIEVE IT !!! YOU DON’T KNOW THE DEFINITE ANSWER ■■? Now that’s a first for you

For what it’s worth, it is reported in the local paper that the AIM driver recently lost his business, then separated from his wife. He was reported to be sleeping in his car, which is one explanation as to why he made no application for bail.
The minibus driver was said to have had less than three hours sleep before setting off.
Blimey! I never exceed 60mph in my car on motorways, and generally do 50-55mph. Why? Because I’m a chilled sort of bloke who has strong faith in the philosophy of the parable of the hare and tortoise, who applies it to his whole life. But judging by this thread I’d be more socially accpetable being a ■■■■■■■■■.

Not sure that’s an explanation for making no application for bail (having no money might be). Given the realisation of what’s happened and the bloke’s life is in a mess possibly for his own safety.

So you’re one of those halfwits that causes chaos by having to have every truck overtake you?
Anyone driving a car who is overtaken by a truck under normal conditions deserves their licence taken off them.

I’ll be a bit more tactful than Mr Adonis here.
Tbf mate if you are sitting at 50 in your car, and every other car is doing 80/90 (yeh I know it’s breaking the limit but I’m being real here) and trucks are doing minimum 56 ish, it does look a bit of a recipe for disaster tbh.
I don’t tearsarse about either but I do try and keep within the flow of traffic.
I reckon there should be a minimum speed for cars…60 65?
You never see many sticking to 70.

Impossible.
In the car I put my cruise on around 80 and I’ll be doing the average, passing a lot but be passed by just as much. It’s keeping up with the flow.
Agree on the minimum, 60 sounds good enough, slow enough for the pensioners and dawdlers but keeps them away from most of us.
A.
got talking to a couple of motorway cop’s some year’s back about different issue’s on the m/way one of which was speed.
they told me the government guideline in England and wales was 83mph and if you got done round that speed the copper was having a bad day.
The attitudes being voiced here, one can hardly blame the general public for increasingly distrusting lorry drivers in general, if professional drivers can’t manage to negotiate their way around a vehicle travelling slightly slower by choice then we’ve reached a new low point, and by Christ this last week or two has been pretty eye opening.
I’m fast coming to the conclusion that a lot of people behind the wheel in the lorry seat simply aint cut out for the job, and might be much less frustrated if they found alternative work.

+1. To make matters worse, even if they know what their cruise control is they’d certainly never use it as they judge it to be witchcraft so they consequently subconsciously slightly speed up when they see a killer juggernaut beside them forcing you to either sit out in lane 2 until they invariably ease off the gas, or drop in behind them where they’ll immediately ease back off the gas!
