How come people moan about Tescos being responsible for going a few minutes over their 15 hours, yet here people think pulling a tacho out and then being on duty for a further 6 hours is a good thing? Surely falsification of records is worse, especially when the cause of the breakdown has been reported countless times (steering) yet management wont have it fixed because “we need the truck”.
Harry Monk:
If he was recovered by suspended tow then this wouldn’t have been recorded on the tacho as the half-shaft would have been removed and so the only evidence that he has broken the law is this thread…
Some tachos also pick up from the abs as well as the gearbox.
IMHO bloody stupid. If he/she is involved in a serious accident everything will be gone through with the finest of tooth combs. The fact that insufficient daily rest has been taken would be enough for a long term in the klink.
as said above it depends on how the firm treat you-i’ve worked for a bloke in the past, who would pay you if you were off sick,or family probs etc. and i was self employed so he didnt have to give me ■■■■ all.but you go the extra mile for guvnors like this-if a job came up and needed doing late on i used to do it and go home in the lorry,he always used to bung us a good bonus at christmas aswell which was very welcome and we’d always get a cut of it if we did an extra job for him.he got his pound of flesh but paid us very well for it.
hope to be going back to work for this bloke very soon as it happens!!

+1. I’d love it if someone I knew was hanging out my dirty washing

Didn’t need to. He posted it on Facebook. But hey, as I was told when I gave my notice in “you’re a valued member of the team.” This was followed up with “the company’s entering an exciting phase…” Yes, what’s exciting about 15 hour days, handball and driving crap clapped out lorries?
Really worth losing your licence for isn’t it?
Round here most drivers hang around the garage when there lorry is in for repair no matter how early they started or how late it is or how early they are starting,it’s what careing drivers do ,they just won’t go home.

Oh poor you, thread didn’t go the way you wanted? You expected everyone to call him an idiot? Like any company each driver has a different relationship with it. I love my job yet we get drivers that come and go in weeks saying they hate it, often because they are first class moaners and that doesn’t go down well at all…not that I’m saying you’re a first class moaner…heaven forfend…no no no…you’ve always come across as the jolliest most cheery of drivers to me
If it was for the company i work out id have come in at 4am if required as they are pretty decent people to work for and it is apreciated.
Even though its got a lot bigger its still a family run firm and there is always a few quid extra in your pay if you go the extra mile. Also if had to have a few early finishes lately to try and sort some personal matters out they havent docked my money planed my work round if and got me a masively reduced rate with there soliciters to help me out.
Although some people think its an awful firm but they tend to be the ones who find any reason to moan or who seem to go to every firm in the area

My thought exactly. If this guy nods off the next morning because he’s knackered from the day before, & wipes out someone elses car/family etc, who’s going to dig him out of that hole?
If these firms mentioned in this thread that ‘care’ for their employees had any sense, they would give the guy his due rest hours & get someone else to drive the truck!
I think the driver in question is a mug!
If it’s a decent firm to work for and you’re appreciated why wouldn’t you give a little back? Or is everyone just out for themselves?
I go in 1/2 an hour early every day to give the lorry a clean and flick round inside, I don’t charge for this anymore than I’d charge for cleaning my van or washing my clothes. I want a clean environment to work in, it wont clean itself.
Why cant people just live and let live? Bloke wants to help his boss out, let the bloke carry on.

An ex colleague of mine broke down on Monday afternoon and needed recovering. He started at 04:00, broke down at 15:00 and pulled his digicard out at 15:30. He finished at 21:30. He started work again at 04:00 the following morning.
Opinions?
The OP asked for opinions…Thats what he’s getting fella.
The driver in question is very loyal, no doubt. He gets on with customers and has a telephone manner that puts office staff to shame. In return he gets treated like an idiot, gets a heap of junk to drive and tends to be given the smelliest, laziest agency mates the company can get for £6.50 per hour. I’ve tried to convince him to give tipper driving a go but he sadly believes all this cuddly bs his employers spout. “Caring firm”? Not very caring to expect him to do upto 15 hour day driving and manual work because the customers are some of the most bone idle gits ever, after the poor sods had about 4 hours sleep, and sat guarding a clapped out truck with faults as long as a Tesco Goods In tea break.

if you nod off at the wheel, you are not fit to be a driver, doesn’t matter what you did the day before.

Does bending the rules & failing to take proper rest periods make him fit to be a driver??
The man is a fool & his boss is nothing but a chancer!
I’d say you’re in a better shape to steer a lorry after a 7-hour break spent sleeping, than an 11-hour daily rest, out of which 6 hours were spent in the pub. doesn’t matter either way, if you’re nodding off, even after a “legal” rest, you shouldn’t drive.
