The more you earn, the more your MRS spends.
Do what makes you happy, and remember to take what people tell you about their pay in the pub or an RDC waiting room and even on here with a pinch of salt.
Quite right Muckles, there is a niche for everyone in this game, its finding your own place in the right timeline for you that’s the problem.
My happiest lorry time was as a trolley dolley for Kwik Save, i bloody loved that job, it wasn’t easy as such though in comparison to car transporters which i came off to go onto KS it was a doddle.
The trouble is when you find your niche the job never seems to last, for me anyway, Kwikies got taken over by Somerfield and the job vanished, i’m in another niche now on the tanks and it suits me fine (just hope it sees me out), i don’t enjoy it as much as Kwikies (though its the best overall T’s & C’s i’ve had) but when i self examine whats wrong i realise there is no answer for me now because i simply detest modern lorries and rubbish automated manual boxes especially, Kwikies would have been a nightmare with the Arsetronic gearbox of doom, coupled to gutless engines, and sleeper cabs with no windows in the back trying to get in some of the tiny places we had to.
It’s a question you can only answer for yourself, everyone’s circumstances, needs and expectations are different.
I think quite a lot of it depends on the organisation (or lack of) in the company you’re working for, there’s a company near me that have just put their rates up A LOT and it would mean a 15 minute trip to work instead of 50 minutes but there is no amount of money would persuade me (or many others) to work there.
In other circumstances I’d be quite happy living in a tin can doing Eurowork, as things are I commute to a place where work is fairly easy, routine and dull as dishwater but pays, what I consider, a decent rate.
My son (young family) is quite happy on days, doing tyres across Southern Scotland & Northern England but isn’t so happy on the same shifts doing work for a pallet network over the same area. At the moment he’s commuting 1hr each way and is looking for similar work based closer to home but is hampered by the 2yrs bollox.
Everybody is different.
In the past i had a ■■■■ easy job,was boring and paid…ok nothing to brag or feel great about but i was home early and out with my mates.
Now i earn good money, and have the option for overtime,
But,its handball and somedays by the end im knackered, but i got 2 young kids,a house to fund, and im in my 20s,.so why im fit enough im gonna work hard earn while i can, because in a few years to come, i doubt I’ll have the energy and be looking for something easier, n no doubt, probably less money.so,each for there own,
The key is if your happy, who cares.
