Lorry driver robbed as he sleeps in cab

A LORRY driver was robbed as he slept in his cab in a lay-by on the A31 near Ferndown.

The 65-year-old man had parked up to take a rest break when an offender siphoned fuel from his lorry, then opened the cab door, sprayed him with pepper spray and stole his bank cards.

The man, from Eastern Hungary, suffered temporary discomfort but was not injured in the late night assault, near the junction with Abbey Road.

Det Con Wendy Stout is appealing for witnesses to the attack, which happened at around 1am on Thursday, February 23.

Wish they leave the truckers alone and go get the bankers instead!

thats the first time i have heard about anything like that happening around here
ive just had a look on the map and that lay by is quite populur with driver as there is a 24hour garage 2 mins walk from it

probably one of his relations who dun it

Alas, bankers don’t tend to hang around in laybys - they’re too busy sunning themselves off in barbados with their ill-gotten cash! :frowning:  :imp:

You lock your house at night Lock your cab, although that’s outrageous behaviour for the Uk but tought times bring out tough streetwise people unfortunately

honest your honour, i always carry a wheel brace in the cab so that i can check my wheelnuts at two o’clock in the morning, its not my fault the gentlemans head got in the way while i was tightening them.

Now, before i post what my first thoughts were i dont want anyone saying that im picking on the foreigners because a few times when i was over the water, or even while working in the uk the only drivers that helped me out were either spanish or of eastern euro origin so i have a bit of time for them.

My first thoughts about this is that he has flogged the diesel to some ■■■■■ to boost his income…

You may ask how i come to that conclusion…
Well…

  1. How many people get robbed using pepper/cs spray? Its normally a big bar or knife. Cs spray for roberies in the uk is quite a rare occurance.
  2. A lot of foreigners carry cs spray as personal protection, the same as we carry hammers and scaff bars.
  3. How many drivers of any nationality go to bed without locking the cab doors, even if your parked in a secure yard you still lock your doors dont you? So…Why the ■■■■ wasnt his door locked, because he had just opened it to get the dosh off the ■■■■■ that he sold his diesel to.

He’s flogged his diesel and sprayed himself to cover the fact then called the police.

Thats my tuppence worth thrown in the mix

How Many times has a bomb been used to blow up unsuspecting passer bys? sorry but its no different to your stupid comment

Yes and for all you know the robber may have found that out on his previous robbery attempts so this time came prepared

How many times has a door lock developed a fault stopping it from being locked, I’ve had it happen to me in the past

WTF would he spray himself in the face for risking being blinded when all he has to do is call the old bill anyway?

Keeping taking your medication Lee cos you certainly sound like you need it in my opinion

Looks like we are well and truly buggered then. If these furriners didnt come over here cutting rates and bringing all their fuel to get them round the country and back out to cheaper climes then we wouldnt be buggered would we?

Still, got to stick together. :unamused:

So what your saying basically is that you accept full responsibility for your gaffer undercutting another Haulier to get a contract etc despite you only being a driver then? :unamused:

One further point I’ll make is, does your comment also include the UK drivers who take the opportunity to fill up in France before returning to the UK for their next job?

since when has cs spray/pepper spray blinded anyone. Its a momentary disabler. Does not incur blindness or the rozzers wouldnt use it or half the chavs and skag heads in the uk would be blind

No davey its you who needs the medication, im just putting my point across and your sucking off all your eastern european neighbours now you"ve moved out there you think they are the best thing since sliced bread.

Pepper spray falls under s 5(b) of the Firearms Act 1968;

you cannot legally buy it in the u.k. i know you can get it in the services in europe, so i to am sceptical about this robbery. and to discharge pepper spray is the same as firing a gun!!!

now i fell very sorry for this driver to be attacked in such a way, but i always lock my door at night and if someone was having my fuel away it would 999 on the phone and not get out of the truck.

but i think he might have to look nearer to his home country for the possible attackers in this case :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning: :frowning:

thought i would add from previous experiance, i had an attempted robbery while i was driving over the water, parked up one night in a layby and 2 scrots tried getting into my cab but i had the doors tied together, and the only other vehicles in the layby that night were 2 romanian reg trucks, so i wouldn’t trust them as far as i could throw them. :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

Pepper spray used under strict instructions not to spray too close to the face, if its that safe video yourself spraying it in your own face proving its harmless and post it on here

I dont give a ■■■■ what nationality the driver was, the point is he was robbed but because he’s a foriegner your happy to conclude it was self inflicted, as for European Neighbours, I find it one hell of a lot safer walking around here than I did in the UK despite all the so called press reports about how dangerous the Roma are in Bulgaria, it’s the same as the UK, press reports exagerating everything they can, and more than likely this report.

As I said originally why sparay himself with pepperspray, all he had to do was call the police to report the theft whether it did or didn’t involve robbery?

I can name 3 women in the UK I know personally who carry a mace spray in their bags for safety, so who confirmed it was or simply assumed it was pepper spray?

Try getting into the real world and you will see criminals adapt to suit their needs, if its better to use a gun and they can get one then they’ll use it, if they need a pick axe handle just because they feel the need to use force then they’ll use one, Oh and lets not forget, criminals also travel abroad so whats saying they didn’t buy a pepper spray abroad if one was used? Easy to conceal, easy to dispose of if stopped by the police?

So no your the one with the medication problem, just be careful, the world is out there after you :unamused:

your right about feeling safer walking around bulgaria than most places in the u.k, i think nothing of walking the sea park in varna at night or around the town. i wouldn’t do it in romania they will have the shirt off your back as soon as look at you

I can only go off what I know first hand, but when you stop at a Hotel in Romania and they tell you to park your vehicle right outside the door so security can keep an eye on it, then that speaks volumes about Romania in my opinion
