Lorry driver jailed over Hull red light crossing deaths

he would be a normal guy and only able to afford a normal uninterested lawyer…he did hit them no matter if they were brain dead or not whilst crossing the road…early guilty plea means 14 month instead of 5 years…easy deal all round except for the truckie.crown prosecuters get a victory, judge is seen to be doing his job and no comeback from the media, media happy that drivers done and get their soppy personal rays of sunlight in a dark room interviews…would be different outcome if he was wealthy and could afford the legal battle.he may be out in 7 month, but still shouldnt be there.

2 things,i notice ,She was preparing to step off the kerb as soon as it changed to red.
He made a mistake ,So did she ,He should be released ,That is an “accident” he will be punished for ever for .
Not intentional and certainly not warrenting jail
1.9mph remorse straight away .this is not that prat on his phone crushing a car flat then denying it
Sorry for all there losses here …

I can only echo what others have said, it’s a tragic accident and sad loss of life, but jailing a driver the judge described as “plainly a decent man” for 14 months will achieve nothing.

+1 sometimes the law seems to step over the line to sentencing purely for vengeful reasons

Strange comment by the judge regarding the lack of phone use. Odd message

the law stepped over the line because it made good news for the media vultures and he wouldnt want to stick his neck out for them to chop it off with." JUDGE LETS JUGGERNAUT DOUBLE MURDERER AWAY SCOT FREE" ETC…the gormless ■■■■■ should have kept her eyes open to check for traffic whst crossing the road…the driver made a whoopsie and no doubt was fully i control of his truck, just missed seeing them, nobodys perfect, but its good media fodder, and the judge makes sure his ■■■ is covered for any backlash…no point in the sentence, other than asscovering on the crowns behalf. 2 people to blame hereand 1 crucified.
why is everyone killed always the life and soul with a great future, cruelly snuffed out etc…obviously if your a miserable billy no mates crabbit moaning grumpy git,you will never be killed in an accident.

Harsh but true. Anyone would have to try really hard to run me over because I’m looking around all the time, waiting for someone that ain’t stopping. This responsibility matters even more when you have a child with you.

Shows just how bad its getting now. Basically the driver was trying to move out to turn left and spending so much time dealing with the [zb] around him he didn’t get enough time to actually be able to look where he was going. When those lycra tossers in London are campaigning for more mirrors on trucks they seem to forget that at some point you actually need to look in the direction the truck is going as this accident proves.

Tragic situation for all concerned. The blame arguably being more with the road planners putting crossings in ridiculous positions such as this where it’s predictable that observation on the approach or exit of the junction or roundabouts etc conflict with observation of the crossing. While the undertaking cyclist hazard issue just adds to that problem massively.

I thought exactly the same as both of you.

Sometimes accidents are truly accidents a culmination of circumstances coming together with tragic consequences for all.

Every ones a loser,

Not really in todays present media climate. What you have to remember is that the so called impartial criminal justice system, is in fact very partial to media and political scrutiny, hence this driver not getting a suspended sentence. The present hobby horse of the media (politicians are getting to notice that this has traction in the media) is mobile phone use while driving, so Judges will at every opportunity mention mobile phones during motor vehicle related prosecutions regardless of the relevance just to show (to the media) that they have taken note :unamused:

What the media seem to forget is that whilst bashing truckers for using mobile phones, they are building a head of steam that will result in action from Politicians, but that action will be motoring wide, so the general public who sit there hand ringing about us cowboy truckers killing innocent people whilst using mobile phones at the wheel, will also be subject to what ever ill thought out law the Politicians come up with, to stem this tide of poor driving standards, and then the ■■■■ storm will be from ordinary motorist who’ve lost their licences and can no longer get little Johnny to school :unamused: :unamused: :unamused:

I wonder what would you lot say if he was an EE driver…
Looks like double standards here

From my personal point of view and assuming ‘exactly the same’ circumstances, how could the idea, that the road planners are more to blame than the driver, possibly change, regardless of the nationality of the driver. :unamused:

If circumstances and events were the same, I would have exactly the same opinion.
Not all EE s are crappist drivers, same as UK, some excellent some totally ■■■■ desperate… despite the misguided popular stereotype band wagon on this forum. :unamused:

In my part of the world they’re introducing “shared space” ■■■■■■■■ where there doesn’t appear to be any road markings whatsoever, therefore pedestrians and cyclists and vehicles all muddle along somehow.

These are in high density urban areas.

Deathtraps and already the accident tally is on the up.

Anybody else got this misguided “progressive” stuff going on?

Sorry, got to mention it whilst I’m having a rant - whos idea was it to put fences up at the approach to roundabouts, seems to be a Hampshire thing mainly and pile or plant loads of crap on the roundabout itself so as you can’t see whats coming round until you’re halfway out and a car arrives and gets on the horn?

I think the idea is to stop cars entering roundabouts at warp speed by blocking their view, and forcing them to slow down. This sort of helps lorry drivers, does it not?

As for trees and bushes etc on roundabouts, they should definitely get cut down! I always feel like an incompetent fool when I get that horn.

Tragic waste of life, there are no winners here, I for one am thinking “there by the grace of God…”

Just what I thought.
