Ive been saying for years that the ideal would be 12 on 12 off, years ago we had the max working day, but there wasnt so much traffic, or pressure on drivers, but as tiime has gone on, the working hours have increased, and so has the traffic, and the accident rates because of tiredness. A 4 on 4 off system is ok for certain industries, but not suitable for all drivers, when a husband and wife both work, its normal to only see each other at weekends, but with the above system, it would mean working weekends. I believe that with the likes of the supermarket bosses, on the Transport Select Committee, means, general haulage gets little say, what the Govt should be doing is, making supermarkets close on a sunday or bank holiday, a lot are open 24/7 and if you cant get your shopping in that time, tough ■■■■, it would mean more time at home for drivers. Of course, a lot of drivers earn at weekends, or are paid by the hour, so they would obviously lose out if the hours were reduced, so no happy medium.

I would like to see a maximum daily drive time of 11 hours - not 9 or 10.
Fixed minimum break of 30 minutes after 5 hours drive or 6 hours on duty.I would like to see a weekly/fortnightly drive time of 66/121 hours not 56/90.
I would like to see a minimum weekly rest of 24 hours in week 1 and 48 in week 2.
Unless I’ve missed something obvious, this is an expansion of current hours laws, not a reduction. This is more work and less rest, is it not?
