When I used to park at the baths, the sound of Meachers ERF 8lxc b series going up the road at night was magic, how times have changed !

Steve
Good top hear from you and Shady, I remember you, Pete Wolstencroft was the transport manager when I was there and Tim Allen , Frank Allen asked me to come off the road and work in the office, once I did that I became one of them, and lost my mate relationship, with other drivers, I took drivers on, and got rid of a couple who were not up to the job, but the old hands were a good bunch, didnt last long in the office, didnt like the back stabbing, left the firm and worked for Lamberts, Meachers, and a few other companies as a subby, miss the old days though, and I still have my licence just in case I feel the nostalgia for the smell of diesel and rubber, let me know when the next reunion is I would like to be there. Bill Bailey sold his cafe and now lives in the Gambia, I went to his farewell party in Devon, dont remember getting back top Southampton

Hi Pat, I went to a barbie this arvo and got talking to a bloke from Southampton who is travelling around Oz in his campervan, as he mentioned that he is an ex lorry driver I mentioned this site which he has never heard of  . I told him that there was a thread called Long Departed Southampton Hauliers and asked if he had heard of you and he said that he did and that he used to know Colin Harris. This blokes name is Dave Elkins and he used to work for Barbour European, he is on his way to the Barrier Reef for a couple of weeks and I have told him to call in on his way back. Do any of you Southampton lads remember him ? or has anybody got any Barbour European photos ?.

Regards Steve.

Hi Steve,

I know Dave quite well, grew up with his kids. He has another brother, Trevor, who lives in Australia, he used to drive trucks in the uk
