Hello All
Does any one remember the exact year that Bakers Transport ceased as a transport company■■?
Regards Jacko

Hi Jacko

George Eames told me he was the last driver on for Eric Baker I will ask him next time he comes in I do know that Eric had lots of permits/books etc and he allowed people to use them long after he ceased transport. He had a farm not far from me at Woodlands and some of his old Man’s and trailers were there for quite a while.

Regards Pat

hi pat ,
the last job i did for mr e baker was in aug 1984 for mr coombes, the last truck he ran was the f89, going to italy collecting
escalators, which skillbeech took over that work. i still have all by sales books going back to 1978, the first job i did for you was in may 1983, and for davies, dec 1980. hi to jimski and tir tone, mappo from davies has left after his eighth tour
now looking to be a salesman,
cheers paul.

Tribsa,

“Sweetheart” (not you) that was it, the last time I went through Gosport it had a very odd Jap name which I did’nt recognise.

Thanks

Mike

What about Polar Cups. Were they not down there as well.Or am I into another “Senior Moment” Regards Charlie

Charlie one.

Polar cup? Yeah I think you are right, they were either there or over the road. The company seem’s to have changed names a few times.

Mike

Thanks for that Mike. I feel better now. Now for another matter. On Friday afternoon at 1525 I was driving on the A27 between Fontwell and Chichester, when in my mirror I spotted a Goldstar lorry with a number plate in the dash.Unfortunately I had to turn off so had no chance to see the name or to notice the driver. Now then ,my question is.Was it the famous Tony Mapson or not? Answers would be nice.Regards Charlie.

Gazzap finally got hold of my uncle unfortunatly he doesn’t have any photos of the lorries he drove.
Regards Jacko.

Hya Paul, long time since we heard from you.
To clear up any possible confusion with your post to some, i,ll explain.
During the 80,s i had the nickname of tir tone which ft and Gazza still remember. My younger brother Keith was known as Mappo.

Jimski…i,m fine mate ta, just been mega busy. Not complaining though…Hope you enjoyed your trip mate.

Re Sweetheart Plastics, i used to load out of there when doing a bit of UK work for Hayes of Fareham.

Charlie…It was,nt me you saw on Friday, that was far too early for me to be anywhere near the depot   and i dont have a name plate in the window. :unamused: :unamused:
Keep looking though mate, my reg ends with OFZ ( til i get my new one ) Give me a flash if you do ever spot me and i,ll gladly buy you a cuppa. I,m off this week though.

kj1963:
got any more of mammoths photo’s. or any louis bull ones. i would be interested in seeing them…
any one out there remember Roger Page, of R S PAGE transport from Hedge End. I know you know him TIR …original. A nd what about Solent City Warehousing from Botley… Your all missing lots of southampton old hauliers !!! :open_mouth:

Got some old Mammoth photos and some with the name Crook on the lorries taken in about 79/80 i’ll see if i can work out how to put them up

Marc (Bubbleman) posted a couple more pics with Southampton links this was my reply

Hi Marc this Scania was owned by Nathan Ambridge who had a yard in Poole near Mark Compton’s and was on for Jameson Europa of Southampton whose Kangaroo trailer is hitched up to it

Ringwood lorry park, sees this 111 with a kangaroo trailer on,I think it was ran by Truman Transport services,Southampton…Pat will know.

Ivor Truman had a similar colour 141 and did a lot of work for Hills of Botley here it is in one of your pics of it from a long while ago

SEV928W When Able freight had it,our good pal Pat (ainacs) had her after and ran it on european work.

Here It is in Novara I think

Enroute in France somewhere with driver Ron Huntley and his dad Eddie

kj1963 wrote who remembers Roger Page? I remember Roger Page as I used to drive for him back in the early 80s…I drove a P reg F88 for him.Started off running Renault trailers from mainly Portsmouth to Swindon and occasionally from Poole to Swindon with car spares in them this was done for RH&D.He then went on to work for SCAC out of Portsmouth,he also had a dabble at doing a bit of Bulk work with a day cab SedAk the other drivers on him around that time were Eddie Hollis(later Skillbeech),Kevin Screech,Steve Kemp, Gary Snow, and he had a fitter called Paul Walton…

Pat just being a little padantic here but the picture of “The Huntleys” is not as you said somewhere in france but is in fact at the IP station on the way down from the blanc sorry to be such an anorak!!!
