At Rownhams workshops ■■ Would you have known Whimpy, Eric Dearlove, Ernie Hayes, in the workshops? Ron Hatch was the tpt manager, and len Seldon the Depot manager
They were there on the Victory / Amey / Greenwood change period ! or perhaps before your time ?

Rich, I’ll not go ito detail on here but I had a couple of years off due to a brain bleed from a head injury. had a battle to get my HGV back but did in the end. I now work for a construction company as a ‘Gopher’, I drive anything from a wagon and drag with a palfinger crane doing cabins, unloading (subbies) artics with tower crane parts, moving the company cherry picker etc. I also drive a 7.5 and a 3.5t but not at the same time?

When they need me I also drive polo ponies but only in Europe or at the start and end of the season when the seasonal drivers go, i used to do it alot but now we’ve bought a heavy they can’t keep nicking me.

How’s the docks, a mate of mine went on there on the straddlers but got made redundent, He may be going back in now tho? Its good to hear from you, this thread is brilliant especially if you go back through the other pages. Great pictures and history. I don’t often post on here but spotted your name and thought its got to be you.

Yeah i’ll try the PM tab and see if it works, the injury is in the past so no problem…apart from the fact I can’t drink booze anymore , ho hum! As for the pictures I’ve looked into it but even after reading the instruction i could’nt work it out and before anyone says it ‘no its not because I bumped me head’?

MIKE DID YOU DO ANY CONTINENTAL WORK IN THE PAST■■?

Not a lot rich, france belguim and holland with mac scott , mainly antwerp and den haag. We did used to do day trips to the tunnel both sides, you would do 2 or 3 drops in Dover/folkstone and the a couple in Calais/ city europe and get a free case of 5% fosters each way? Duty free was great but they stopped the giveaways as soon as Duty free ended, if there was no collections in holland or belguim we came straight back over? I would of liked more but could’nt do the weekends away. do you do any hgv work or have you stayed away from it?
