As I was about 21/22 I only vaguely remember it being Jimmy but as you are marginally older than me you likely met them maybe but do remember a doggy old D series that leaked fluid.
I think you are right on 06.00 or definitely early AM as stayed at Poplar/Lymm on-route when it was just a white bungalow.
We did Castleton the other side of the Penines too but think that was Argos or something similar, 100% not a favourite job but was much happier when I moved onto delivering Kawasaki’s up the North East with the Hiab trailer & got a 290 ■■■■■■■ ERF and up to a mighty 38t which meant another £1 a day I think?

Marginally older? Nearly a decade I reckon!
Just like the farmers to-day it seems, Tomy and hence their carriers were pretty much in the grip of the big outlets, and just took any bookings offered.
Yep, Poplar Cafe, when Poplar Transport were still around.
The quarry was always good for anyone tipping north on a Friday as we used to drop a 40ft flat in there, open 24hrs, so early start home on Sat morning if needed.
Bacup, wasn`t it?
I think you are right on Bacup, just Googled the road up through the town & looks about right.
I remember my first shower at Poplar standing on those wooden grids to try and stay out of the puddles. Very quickly invested in some flip flops to avoid dodgy foot issues.
Five Ways on the way up North West or Jack’s Hill if running to Beeston etc.
And about to turn 58 so only you know the difference.

Jacks Hill was a regular stop. And pull off the M1 and into Coalville for a night out, whether loading at Charcon or not..... Less said about some of the nights-out there the better I reckon! Carmens cafe near Harwell was another good stop.
I’m not aware that Pitter’s ever operated Guy vehicles.Their Phs Van Ommeren liveried contract vehicles were either Atkinson, S.A.400s or M.Deutz.
The Guy is more likely to belond to another regional haulier who had a Phs Van Ommeren contract.

There was also rumoured to have been an ERF NGC European in Van Ommeren livery on NYK containers. It may have been the sister to MMG 772P, an ERF NGC operated by AJ Bradick of Leyton and taken over by GL Baker.
ERF-NGC-European:

Are G.L.Bakers still going? I once worked for them, indirectly, delivering gas bottles after C.E. Dormer, which I believe owned them, took over Shaws of Stapleford.

C. E Dormer -green Atkinson 8 wheelers ?- never owned G.L.Baker. Baker’s who did much work for Marks & Spencer were acquired by BOC in 1969 & became BOC Transhield & later BOC Distribution Services. That in turn became GIST in 2000 & the German Linde group acquired GIST in 2006. Marks & Spencer have now bought GIST from Linde
