Yes it is a Southampton registration but not ever heard of Clovers and a search on Google reveals nothing!!!
Poetic licence maybe??
I have seen this pic/painting before on EBay ■■?
Regards Pat
Hi Pat and Buzzer. Thanks anyway, the only Clovers I remember were Clover’s Asphalt and Clover Dairies. Of course there was the four-leafed clover as well…
Cheers Pat, I wondered who they were as I couldn’t place them.

Clovers had Flour Mills for the Bisquit trade in the seventies.I know the one in Dedham ,Essex but that isn’t in the pic. They also had another mill… maybe in Chelmsford & that could be it?

Sad to see, I spent many a happy day working for tony ! I was a young lad and worked in the workshop with Bingo dollerey and Bob Burgess both gone also .
I learnt to strip and rebuild 3 series scanias and by the end could do it with eyes closed ! But I mainly learnt how to work hard, drink well and how the real life is lead !
Made many a good friends through these guys so thanks guys enjoy it up there !

A good painting, but no fleet number visible. Not a genuine reg no for that particular vehicle
Says in my book - MTR,Southampton C.B.C. March 1954.Which would be a sound date for that AEC MK3 Mammoth Major.
That’s quite correct MTR/MOW/MCR were all issued during 1954.However I’m quite certain that no BRS vehicles were registered by So’ton CBC. If the vehicles had been nationalised in 1948,then any So’ton registered vehicles would have had GTR/GOW/GCR as the latest registerations issued in 1948
Many BRS vehicles were registered by Bournemouth CBC up to the mid fifties, when Bournemouth was the regional office for South Western District ( EL /LJ / RU )
It’s still an evocative painting
A trio of locals and a picture of the first roundabout in Southampton, several accidents because not every one knew how to negotiate a roundabout as many had never seen one before…Six dials…
gazzer:
Eric Baker had a company called B & D (Overseas) Ltd. This was explained as Baker & Downer (Overseas) Ltd. 2 and 2 = 4?
could be right Gazzer, could only find Downer and Co listed as being a haulage company in the 20’s by Charles Walker in " A History of Road Transport"
further back in LDSH (page108) R-Jacko tells of bakers having connections with Downer.
