So no one in London earns under 50k a year I must be in the wrong firm
ZigZag:
Hi Ader1I’m still saving up to move down to the South East. As a HGV driver your best to get a place just outside of the M25 as most of the industrial areas where you will be working will be places like Dangenham, Thurrock, Enfield, Hatfield etc The pay is pretty much the same but you get better value for money accomodation wise. I’m looking at Dagenham at the moment.
As for buying a place within inner London, if you become a bus driver after 12 months you can buy or rent key worker flat just like a nurse or teacher can at half the price. Most are brand new and some even riverside
I’d rather ride Shotgun with Brentanna!
Ader1:
Hi ZigZag,Thanks for the information. It’s very quiet everywhere now though isn’t it…even in London. But things will improve at some point I’m sure.
Tell me about it mate. Rochdale is dead. I had to do 6 weeks as an order picker over xmas 12 hr shifts @ £6 ph. I lost nearly a stone in wieght. Nothing being built here. For last 2 years the local newspapers here have been getting excited about the new JD Sports wearhouse opening in 2012! ffs is that all we got to look forward too?

Nobody said that, the point made was that if you want to live on your own you’d need a lot of money, otherwise you share which the majority of people do
Like a previous poster said, you only need 50k to live in London if you want the two cars, 3 bedrooms etc. 6 million people can’t all be on 50k plus. Question is, do you want to live in the areas that you can afford on hgv wages?
Depends what you are used to. Just don’t expect a Chelsea pad on a drivers wage!
Average wage is around £32 grand a year + nights out . accommodation is what ever you want…a room for £80 weekly…a flat for £200 a week, or a mortgage of £150 grand for a flat, £170 grand for a small house, or something like mine : 5 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, 2 reception rooms, a maid and a chef + gardener all under a million.

Living in Greater London on your own really isnt an option for most people, unless you want 20p a week disposable income. You might be able to buy a shoe box. But then if you want to live in the worlds greatest city then it’ll cost you!

You might be able to find a small rented place in Brixton or Willesden but forget any ideas about the worlds greatest city and the neighbours/natives won’t exactly be friendly either
.But Geneva it certainly ain’t.
But if London was really that great all the zb Londoners would’nt want to live in Surrey instead and keep calling for us to wreck even more of the county to build yet more houses for the zb’s.

Good lord did you just compare London unfavourably to Geneva?! Have you been to either? If so your are indeed nuts!
I live about 1/2 mile outside the greater london loony zone having got out of the place since the last time the pc zb’s invaded Surrey with concrete bricks and mortar and then brought in more of their inner city ideas of diversity etc etc blah blah zb blah Ken Livingstone type bs.So for now it’s fresh air green fields and Brixton it most certainly ain’t
.
Geneva been there and through it loads of times and Lausanne etc etc and don’t think that there’s many bankers who are rushing to sell up and move to the London zb hole from there unlike from London to there. With good reason. But if you know different maybe you could explain what the Swiss problem is

Certainly, having like you been there I can confirm it’s boring, very very boring. Stereotype I know but then most of them are true. London may in places be grubby, sometimes seedy, frantically busy and sometimes stressful but I’d take the huge diverse always intresting and always exciting melting pot that is the worlds greatest city over anywhere in Switzerland, or indeed the world, any day.
Oh and I wouldn’t look to bankers for advice on anything, not even banking, let alone the best place to live.
I’m working in North London, from ‘up north’,only working down here because its a ‘one off’ job that pays accordingly,by and large normal jobs, wagons, construction, engineering down here pay no more than they do in other parts of the country, but costs, not only housing, parking, travel etc are much higher, unless you really want to live in London, the work/wages don’t justify coming here, imho.

This is so true!! The OP would be better off moving to the MK,Northampton areas!! It’s not called the golden triangle for nothing!
London is 50 miles from here and is alot cheaper for a Trucker and the pay is better sometimes!
I’ve lived in London all my life! And everyone who makes their wedge moves out a way but still maintain a job in London!! Hence Rushhour to all parts of the south east morning and evening!
There is nowhere on earth like London!! If you can’t hack it here you won’t do it anywhere!!
130 odd languages spoken every day!! I Love Laandaan!!!
Luton is cheap http://www.findaproperty.com/searchresults.aspx?edid=00&salerent=1&areaid=0714&bedrooms=01
I live in london admitidly on the outskirts and accomidation isnt cheap but other than new york i cant think of a city id rather live in.

I’d definitely look to bankers for advice on lining my own pockets at everyone else’s expense and then, just like proffessional footballers, spending the money on the best living standards possible and that does’nt usually include living in London .
But the issue of Switzerland being boring depends on your definition of boring.

Great for commuting perhaps, but still a myth in terms of the media (magazine affiliated to this Forum take note) and it’s creation of the ‘Driver Shortage’ myth! Crick Co-Op were doing a deal this week whereby for every bunch of bananas purchased, 10 Drivers were thrown in absolutely FREE!!! Transport Managers take note!!

I agree with all that, Switzerland is very grey and very boring, even the people dont speak to each other…they are even stranger than the Belgiques…(thats people from Belgium)
Has anybody been down Southall High Street during the day(any day)…■■ and noticed how packed it is with people…Just like it used to be on any saturday morning in any towns high st…
Southall High St ? is that the Bangladeshi one, the Iraqi one, the Pakistani one, or ‘spot the white man one’ in Middlesex one ■■?
Isn’t Geneva a holiday resort where old ■■■■■ go before their last visit to Zurich
I seem to remember, unlike these zubbers who join Club Dignitas

No it’s the type of place where people with lots of money like Michael Schumacher go to live because they don’t want to live in Southall
