After having a chat with a driver he told me what load he had on the back, which was Logs from Canada. Now, he told me he picked it up from Tilbury Docks and it was then being taken to Port of tyne ( stand to be corrected ).
Couple of questions,
1 - Whats the difference between our logs and Canada’s logs
2 - Why couldn’t the load be taken to Port of tyne in the first place?
Also,
Have you got any stories about the weirdest loads you have had in the past?
Ummmm, I’d say it’s something to do with Logistics. Maybe it’s cheaper to offload at Tilbury.
Weirdest Load has got to be driving a empty 45’ container that nobody ‘owned’. It was refused at Felixstowe Port, refused at Thamesport and wasn’t wanted at Tilbury. 11 hour shift ‘wasted’.
Was eventually dumped at RCL Leeds as far as I’m told.

To the untrained eye, probably nothing. But to someone who knows about it I’ll bet there is a lot of difference, even if its only perception, and there will be people willing to pay a premium for Canadian stuff.

If the ship was docking at Tilbury, then it makes more sense to off-load there. It’s always going to be cheaper to haul relatively small amounts of any cargo to another destination than to pay for the ship to dock at an unscheduled port. The cost to have a ship dock in a port would bring a tear to the eye of even the hardest of men.

I once picked a Ford Mondeo up from Rosyth docks, and took it to a ford dealership in Ayr. There was nothing special about this Mondeo, it was blue, unregistered, RHD, normal interior, standard spec. When I got to the dealer, I off-loaded it next to 3 near identical mondeos which had been brought in by one of the big vehicle logistics companies earlier that day. I asked the dealer what the script was but nobody knew, and I never did find out why this one car was sourced outwith the normal supply chain, or why it was so important that they paid to have it shipped at such great expense.
4 empty chep pallets from palletways (lichfield) to chep (b/ham)…1 hour wait at palletways to be loaded nearly 2hr journey to chep (rush hour) 1hr 30m wait to be tipped at chep …never found out the reason just didnt make sense 4hr 30m in wages and around £50 in diesel

I know a few farmers that would store that for you, might even pay you
