Chas:
By practicing your tax avoidance measures Harry, don’t you think you might have become one of those bankers, politicians & Philpott’s?
I don’t practise tax avoidance measures, I pay the tax legally due and no more. It’s not a new idea.

To earn a little bit more, to feed the ambition, to be just that little bit ‘different’ to all us others, you chose a path that you have taken great delight in sharing with us all.
By buying your truck (with their money) you might think you have become one of them.
You are in debt to them Harry ‘Big time’. You belong to ‘them’, you are now an asset in some bankers portfolio. You work solely to pay your dues to ‘them’. I dare you to not pay them.
Funny thing is, you still think you’re going it alone, like some lone wolf character in a fiction book you might have once read. They ‘own’ you Harry, they have their hands clutched round your jollocks one hell of a lot tighter than they do us mere mortals.
Enjoy it. Every experience is a learning experience. In a few years time they will have sucked you dry & tossed you to one side. Maybe then you will be a better person.
Chas:
Good luck to you, there was a time when I could buy your truck brand new & set myself up as an OD by diverting just a small part of my entertainment budget.
How is Dave?

No, mostly I did it because otherwise I would have spent most, if not all of the last year out of work. And I don’t think that part-owning a secondhand tractor unit makes me “one of them”.

WOW. Four thousand six hundred & seventy nine posts on one forum, you’re only fourteen !
You’re obviously not a comedian then.

Why would you have been out of work?
Why can’t you just earn a decent wage driving a tractor in terms & conditions that are acceptable to you?
Why have you borrowed their money, to buy their tractor, to do their work for them?
You don’t ‘actually’ know what you’re doing do you? Or at least, there’s a spark of the awful dawn of realisation about you.
You have become ‘their man’, & you have no way out of the massive hole you have dug for yourself do you?
If (god forbid) Harry Monk had a heart attack tonight, how much do you lose & how much do they gain?

1). Because I’ve been sporadically in and out of work since the recession began and when I have been in work, it’s been doing a hateful job working for idiots.
2). I didn’t borrow “their” money to buy “their” tractor, if you are really that interested then I paid £25,000+ VAT for the truck, paid £10,000 and the VAT myself and financed £15,000, which is less than many people pay for a car.
3). Yes, I think I know what I’m doing. At least, I probably have a better idea of my finances than you do.
4). I’m not in a “massive hole”, I could sell the truck tomorrow, clear the finance, walk away with the equity and then wait for the next two months of outstanding invoices to go into my bank account.
5). If I had a heart attack tomorrow then I would either be dead, in which case I wouldn’t be bothered either way, or I would be alive but unable to drive a truck in which case see (4) above.
Any more questions, feel free to ask.

Are you familiar with the word ‘franchise’?
If you didn’t borrow the balance of the money you spent from ‘them’, who did you borrow it from?
Which trucks ‘appreciate’ in value once you’ve bought one?
Basically, what you’re saying is, that you’re such a good trucker, you need to borrow £15k in order to drive one without being made redundant?

1). Yes. Where do franchises come into it?
2). Close Asset Finance.
4). Sorry, I don’t understand this point, could you clarify it for me?

Harry Monk:
Pay yourself less than your personal tax allowance a year in wages and take the rest as dividends.Tax avoidance / tax evasion is a big debate that is best not discussed whilst waving a copy of The Sun newspaper in the air.
I really wish that the decent & honest amongst us would direct our energies towards what I call tax injustice. I pays my dues, I just wish everyone else would too.
The more Tax you pay the more countries will get invaded for trumped up reasons, how much has wars in Afgan and Iraq cost the tax payer ■■?
We are in recession to pay for the bombs, bullets & foreign aid.
