Licences revoked, apply abroad?

.

It all boils down to the one thing that has always ■■■■■■ up this job and that is there is no unity and never will be
If there was unity this kind of thing would never happen
You work most of your life and in a blink your life is upside down and you are made feel like a begger it should be the opposite if you have year’s behind you you should be looked after
It sticks out a mile that the license people don’t have any respect for the country’s top medical people they seem to make it up themselves what’s accepted and thats not fair on anybody
This man is being screwed both ways

The thing is DVLA only issue licences under the guidance of the traffic commissioner, and even the TC doesn’t have the ultimate say in it, that is down to a magistrate.

My doctor wrote to me about a year ago and said that she wanted to see me - so off I goes and we had a chat that soon got on to my medication that I have been taking on and off for many years.

Secret to be told it’s for anxiety but I only take as and when I feel a bit iffy (going to the dentist for example) and I always break the smallest dose tablet in half because that’s all I need.

So she says " we gotta tell the DVLA about this because your a truck driver" and with a flourish comes out with a copy of the relevant page from the DVLA medical section about such medication.

The doc’s a good sort and a thoughtful practitioner and she didn’t want me to have to stop taking the meds but she didn’t want a comeback either.

This was all, I was told because of Mr Glasgow Binman and the DVLA have gone to town.

My doc knew that my intake wasn’t anywhere near enough to impair me in any way when driving but she had to bring it up. I told her I fully understood her position so we came to a deal - I went and had a chat with a shrink for an hour and she would keep schtum. We shook hands on the deal - shrink said that the amount of drug that I took was so minor it worked by having a placebo effect.

So, alls well that ends well - but it illustrated to me that surgeries don’t want to take any risks whatsoever now because of this awful tragedy in Glasgow.

For what it’s worth I couldn’t agree more with posters on here who have had top quality care from respected consultants and yet some wonk can simply disregard their expertise and experience in what are highly specialised fields. And somebody who has had heart surgery, stents etc surely is safer than someone who hasn’t - they are going to look after themselves a lot better post op as well.

I have to wonder if being in a union would be a good idea. Certainly when I was younger and similar things arose , it was possible to get help and finance from a union in order to fight your corner.
