LHD or RHD on the continent?

A swede once told me that they used to drive on the left there, before switching to right-side driving sometime in the mid-1960’s, but all the cars there were LHD. The reason why, he claimed, was that , on snow-covered roads, you needed to see where the edge was, so that you didn’t slide off. I think it was probably because they could sell them easier in other countries…

BTW, I was reading that Czechoslovakia was the last left-driving country on the main part of the continent, only switching to right-running due to an edict from Herr Hitler. Back in those days, larger Czech cars often had centre-controls.

I prefer LHD, but i know it is stupid because LHD made me feel continental driver and people will know i am doing drive out the continental also i am left hand user. i think it is better for me but maybe in future when i became owner driver for european work then i will buy LHD Mercedes Actros

Ben.

Alexx, Sweden were the last country on mainland Europe to change, they did it in 1967.

The next phase of the European rule that all vehicles must drive on the right is due to come into force on the 1st January.

To make things easier, this will be done in two stages. Buses, Coaches and Taxis will change over first, and 12 Hours later Lorries and Cars will have to follow suit.

Drivers are warned that there could be some confusion to start with and to drive with care!
