If you went from a B licence to a CE licence including CPC for £1300, you weren’t scammed were you?

You might say it sounds too good to be true.

Have you actually checked your licence Foxy? Does it have the extra letters on it and the pictures of the lorries on the back? Did you take any tests or did you just pay the nice man £1300 and he said “you’re a lorry driver now son, on your way.” before running off as fast as he could?

LOL!

Yet again the Smythster has pretty much summed it up. Visit, visit and visit before you commit.

On another note I would agree that hindsight is a wonderful thing but it’s no good mocking those who have fallen prey to the exploits of the brokers. If you were new to the industry and you contacted one of these brokers who employ SALES people (and not instructors) it would be quite easy to fall for it and pay the deposit.

Once you pay the deposit then they pretty much have you.

Trading standards know what these scammers are up to yet they tend to act after the event (scam.) It’s all catch up. The good people on here just have to keep informing and educating those who want to be a truck driver on the pitfalls of using a middleman.

You cannot rely on the associations either to give good advice. I have been writing to the RHA and FTA for years and the RHA now won’t even acknowledge me when I do contact them. And these “associations” are supposed to represent our industry. Having association logos on Broker website only adds kudos to what they do. I personally think they should be showing some moral fibre on this (RHA and FTA.)

I have it from good authority that Watchdog (and channel 5) is actually investigating brokers…so let’s see what happens. My own website will shortly be embedding the “You’ve Been Scammed” HGV program onto our home page. Watch that for 10 mins and it pretty well explains why you should not chance it with a dodgy broker and why you should go direct.

I am sure I caught sight of an investigation on tv a week or so back. It was on at prime time as well I think. I am not 100% sure, but think it was that new programme hosted by Nick Knowles & Julia Bradbury, called ‘That’s Britain!’ :unamused:

Just so you know
It was a package deal that if you passed your C then after taking cpc you got a free C+E course, was misleading as everyone who paid for it thought it was the dcpc not the operators cpc. Also it was typical broker timescale, paid april test oct, six weeks home study to learn about haulage etc to pass December CPC, then results Feb, and C+E test March. you only had a year to do it in to claim your free C+E, so no room for error. The broker was relying on people failing either their C test or the CPC else it would have been a money loser for them. But for me it was a bargain, not a long winded one, and made me a well educated driver, although I’ve forgotten most of it now  as I don’t drive regular.
