That’s stupid as my medical would have been 3 times what I paid if I’d have gone to my own GP!
IF and I do say IF the law changes so that only your own GP can do your LGV medical then the powers that be should also fix a set price for it
My sea going medical has to be renewed every two years and the £80 fee that is the max/min charged has to be refunded or paid for by the ship owner.
Still cant make up my mind whether to go for the drivers medical where I have to do the dreaded 12 minute treadmill punishment to revalidate my class 1. Is it worth the hassle and the expense (never mind the drivers CPC) just to keep my hand in at driving for the sake of a few weeks max per year ?

They were issued by the Traffic Commissioners and valid for three years. This changed in the early nineties to the DVLA.
Yep, I remember sending my fee to the TC and waiting for a sticker to stick in my HGV licence.
The glue on the sticker tasted bloody awful too!!

I doubt it, they will claim it is a free market and you can change your GP, like NHS Choices, only works where there are more than one surgery.

Another cost to bear just to work. I had to go to occupational health at the company’s request once - got the shock of my life when it turned out to be my own bloody GP doing non NHS work!I never used him for my HGV medical on the grounds of cost (£125) and funnily enough neither did the firm.
Just goes to show that where there is money to make the ruling classes always find it! And as usual it’s compulsory and unavoidable.
Roll on retirement - you young 'uns can have my job I’m done!
My was nealy the same rung my doctor up wanted something like £150 so went to the medical centre on Immingham docks they wanted about £50,when i walked in it was my own doctor.

It doesn’t say only your own GP can do it, it just says that whoever does it must have access to your patient records. The maximum fee your own GP can charge is 10 to view those or 50 to copy them.
The only thing they can refuse for is if the information released may cause serious harm to the physical or mental health or condition of the patient, or any other person. In that case I imagine you would not get a licence anyway.
I already have copies of my GP records from 1958 until 2011 with just a few gaps from when I moved house and moved abroad.
