Watched abit of Stobart on the TV the other week, one of the "kids " on there was the Boss`s son pulling logs out of some forest up and around the borders
The program narrator said the guy was 19 and trying give his Dad a good impression, was that a mistake or was it Stobarts running their own rules, as I was under the impression minimum age for LGV was 21 has the law changed

Law changed on 10 september 2009 with the introduction of the driver cpc = its now age 18
Hi Rog,
Since I made my post, had a chance to look it up on a few sites,as far as I can see the Training for the CPC started in 2009 in readiness for it being implimented in Sept 2014,but the actual driving age limit is still 21
It would be nice to see how others interpret the Licence Law

Before you can train to become a LGV or PCV driver you must normally be aged over 18 and hold a full car licence (category B entitlement).
Quoted from the GOVERNMENT website
there is a young drivers scheme, at newark we have a 19year old, to pick fault on his age or driving ability is wrong , hes very knowledgeable ,he dad alot of exams and tests before he could even get on the scheme, just lacks the road miles, but he can do anything i can do , even that trickey blindside
From DVLA

The national young drivers scheme was revoked in august 2009 so that must be a company scheme
There is no misinterpretation of the law for this issue - it is very clear what the legal age is
As usual ROG is smack on, chatting to a young lad on the train last week as it happens, he was just 19 and on his way Spain with a scanny pulling a fridge, well done if you can do it, not the job for every teenager though.

The Driver CPC is not to be implemented in 2014, it came into force in 2009 for HGV drivers.
People who already had HGV entitlement was given five years acquired rights which will run out in September 2014.
So as has been said you can drive HGV’s commercially at 18 if you pass the DCPC Initial tests.
Without passing the DCPC tests you cannot drive HGV’s until the age of 21, but without passing the DCPC you cannot drive HGV’s commercially at any age.
Those driving LGVs commercially must now have a real or ghost DQC
Re private LGV driving
LGV C1 and C1E = age 18 and has been for decades
LGV C and CE = age 18 but but need initial dcpc if under age 21
