Leyland Lorries

Thats the one Pete, Gavin had CTV280T and Micheal had CTV279T a dropside tipper, Len Summers must have thought all his Christmasses had come at once that year, he worked as a salesman at Kays at the time, Denis bought those 2, my dad bought CTV296T, Herbert Hambleton bought CTV277T, Andrew Brassington and Alan Harrison both had new Clydesdales but I can’t remember the reg of those 2. Work was plentiful then though.

Hi all,

Just thought I would start a thread about Leyland Lorries for themselves
Others seem to have their own so why not Leyland?

Here is a start.

Hope people will contribute?

Thanks a million for them pics sir beautiful they brought back memorys I can say with pride I had the pleasure of driving every type on the reel even one like Bowkers ex WD Hippo 1954 when I was still at school it belonged to A Rowe & sons Cudworth Barnsley Lovely pics pal.

Another good workhorse, Regards Larry.

Larry you liked the Roadtrain then ? this was one Roadtrain I drove and loved every minute, now resting at Rush green .

As she was , full time driver from new was Tony Smith then Tony botto and myself was the releif driver .

Another great truck used on the Fleetwood trunk , driver was Ivor Parry , she was often seen doing over 70 on the M6 going North ,trying to get to Fleetwood for 9pm . :open_mouth:

Leyland in Spain with T.M.U cab.

That’s a cracker mate,it’s a Buffalo with a locally made Spanish cab.

They had a longer bonnet than the Super Beaver’s and Hippo’s with three vents along the side instead of two.

They were fitted with the huge Albion ‘900’ 17 litre 6 cylinder motor. These looked very much like a Leyland 680,but much bigger.

They were an export only model half a dozen came to NZ with many more to OZ. The Spanish also had lots of these.

I snapped this in “Renegade” country today –

A Christmas cracker for you from the days when men were men and lorries were…well hard work to drive. But if you had a Leyland of that era they were one of the best. A mince pie to anyone who can identify the location (still recognisable today). Seasons greetings to everyone from Gingerfold.

Is it the A65 between Skipton and the M6 or could it be the A59? I’m being a bit vague

The Cross Keys at East Marton - where the A59 goes over the Leeds-Liverpool canal.
