Leaving Gear in Lorry When You're Off

kr79:
Yeah that’s good when you try and guess what driver bought readers wives over 50s only lol.

We had a fair idea who left the granny mag…

I’m quite lucky as mine hardly ever gets used when I am off as I am based out, had 8 days off a few months ago and it got used just for two of those days and came back as I left it! The drivers at ours are all alright from who I know so I have no problems leaving my gear in, in fact, when I came back I had a replacement saucepan waiting for me as a driver who had the wagon had scratched mine!

I think the general rule of thumb is leave it as you found it!

I’m tramping this week in someone else’s truck, I met the fella doing a changeover with him a couple off weeks back. We were chatting about drivers and saying about how scruffy some are and I said I leave a Truck as I find it, quite simple. He took my name and now he is holiday I’m driving his lorry. He has taken all his gear out but left some cleaning products so I’m now going to give it a good spruce up and when I get back I will wash it and fuel it up for next week for him.

The only thing he did was leave newspaper all I’ve his carpet which I binned, I can’t live all week around newspaper everywhere, but carpets are clean and swept and if find a newspaper il put some down later.

If only had known that could have saved me some carrier bags.

All I used to leave was curtains take my seat covers mats etc out or secure them in the lockers. Some people just dont respect someone elses’ kit

There is nothing worse away all week finding all the lockers locked up and nowhere to put your stuff, one place I worked where it was xf’s they used to lock the lockers and padlock down the bottom bunk so you couldn’t use that space either :imp:

It’s all a bit weird for me as for the 1st time in my 32yrs on the road I’m in a job where someone else uses the wagon.
Up until I changed jobs last january I’d never worked anywhere (apart from a short spell at Sainsbury’s on days) where someone else used your wagon whilst you were off,if we had 2 weeks hol’s for example, you parked your wagon up & with a couple of firms you even took the keys home with you whilst you were off (spares in the office if it needed to be moved).
Now,however, it’s empty the cab when you’re off. Bit of a pain but it only takes a few minutes, worst part is the 20-25 min’s it takes to put it all back in when you start back, especially if you have to start hoovering & polishing at 4am on a wet monday before you can even put your gear back in. Just another part of the pleasure that is modern life on the road. One day I’ll get a “proper job”!

I used to go away for upto 8 weeks at a time so carried to much kit to take out every time you have one week off. It just depends on the time you spend away in the unit

Last thing after your gear out is you. Haggle all day long if you want to a non-listening person, not sure they will want to recompense any of your losses out of their wages. Get all your stuff and go.

Simples: Take the Meerkats too if they not gone already…

Leave everything as no nights as a rule.Had one in 8 months which was unfortunate.I am the youngest driver there at 30.One in his 40s one in his 50s and two are 65 so nobody is into taking or going through other peoples stuff,oh and neither am i.I leave it as i find it if i take another and they all know that. This is the first place i have been able to do it though.Taken everything out even the dusters everywhere else!

I take everything out as there are some disgusting drivers at our place. I always return to find dirty boot marks and it stinks of ■■■■ so I can only imagine what they would do with my stuff.

I am off next week I made sure my cab was empty just cant truse no one these days, was speaking to a guy the other day who works on the Roads he was feeding some wires threw some ducting with a rope, he then decided he wanted the toilet then later come back someone had cut the rope and ran off with most of it :unamused:

Heard another one the other day, heard from this BT guy who was repairig the main box on the street that someone had broken in it and nicked the whole fuse box so no one in this street had a telephone :unamused:

It is true people will nick anything today so never leave anything behind I say

well i’ve been tramping for a good few years, but have currently switched to nights for a short term period.
so i get a different truck most nights, in various states of cleanliness. i always, without fail leave a truck as clean, or cleaner than i find it, it will also be full of fuel, (if drivers leave their cards and pins) and hooked up ready for the day man, when possible. i’m a big smoker, but never smoke in a non smokers motor, (i just find alot of laybys for a cigarette break). i don’t feel the need, and wouldn’t out of respect rifle through someones gear, everything i need for a night fits in a bag, (a big 1) paperwork, map, satnav, flask, sarnies, laptop etc.
i think all round, leave a motor as you’d expect to find it, although many don’t.

well i got back today an was told mine is for service on tue so im in a day motor for most of tuesday so nearly all my gear went in a tub under the bed sat nav maps etc went with me been told il have it back in afternoon so at least il be in my own for the night out

I used to hate leaving my stuff in my cab when i lived there, some just dont have any respect. On Tesco one morning I came in to be called into the office, some git hd deliberately st off the fire extiguisher in my cab because it was kept spotlessly clean and he or she was jealous because they didn’t have a regular truck, it back fired though because I got paid 8 hours to clean the interior out then go home
On Concord roadshows I could leave my vehicle in the yard for weeks and nother ever got touched, they were a very good crew and we all worked as a team and trusted each other.
On my present job my truck stays with me always, if I go on holiday for two weeks it sits on my driveway, as there is so much equipment in there it takes about 2 hours to get t all out.

Why should you clean up someone elses ■■■■!

I gut my cab when I go on holiday, and remove or stow in lockable lockers or under the bunk everthing even for day off. I even remove company equipment and PPE that I’ve signed for, the planner asked me to leave my company mobile to make it easier less confusing for our customer, big fat no, I signed for it, and he didnt want to do the paperwork to sign it back over. You only let your gear get riffled once as i did.

having got used to an exclusive truck at my previuos employer, it was a shock to take 1 day off and find that my bedding DVD player wash gear and maps tea bags and a can off soup had all been moved or used in 1 day. never again :imp:

Why should you clean up someone elses [zb]!

just because i suppose. i’m normally a day driver, done euro work mainly, and when at my old firm, if i was in the uk for abit, my truck could get sent out on a night run. some looked after it, some didn’t, but itwas so much nicer to come in on a 3,4,5am start to a clean and tidy truck. i leave motors as i’d expect to find them tbh.

Yes its always best to get in a clean cab but if you get in someone elses and its a ■■■■ tip then you can forget it.Why should i be arsed if they cant be.As long as me own is clean i am not bothered
