Leasing a car

Being disabled, I used to have a motability car, which I leased but it was crap, (can’t have us cripples swanning about in decent cars). So I handed it back and put a £9k deposit on a Honda Civic Type R and used my disability money to pay the monthlies. I’ll be handing it back at the end of the lease, just like I did the motability car.

So that’s a £35k car for only £9k of my hard-earned. Winner winner chicken dinner.

As previously said no doubt …You have a fixed cost ,which will vary depending on the milage you set …If you stay with the same dealer at the end of the deal they will generally overlook any excess milage as long as you don’t kick the ■■■ out of it …It is like an R&M contract ,you will be responsible for damage ,tyres ,bulbs etc …I would check to see if road tax is included with the recent changes …The major downside is ,if you change every 2 years it will affect your credit rating

Never leased a car, any suggestions/tips would be greatly appreciated.

Basically, after either Focus or Juke type vehicle, not concerned whether we own the car after 3 years or not, need a family car that will double up as wife’s transport for her mobile business. Around £150-£170 per month.

Thanks

Just got my Mrs a new car on a Pcp , we’ve always paid cash but with changing them on a regular basis , year / 2 it was costing 1,000,s and 1000,s every time so I’ve been looking at doing it this route for a while but hm and ha,d and Mrs didn’t like the idea at all and still doesn’t , but I thought I’ll try it the once and see , if I don’t like it I can buy her a car at the end as I’ve done previously .
So looked around but some of it was bloody expensive , focus rs , 10k down , £400 + p.m for I think it was 38 months ( may of been 48 ) and then hand it back , too much , fiesta st200 , 4 k down , £220 p.m ( 38 months ) very tempted , fiesta st3 ,4 k down , £202 , 38 months ( was having this as Mrs liked the blue) , but in the end I thought I wanted this too be a cheap way of doing it , so gone for a fiesta st line , 4K down , £137 p. M , 38 months . Mrs not happy as she wasn’t keen on a ford but loved the blue rs , liked the st200 as not many about , and liked the blue on the st , but recons st - line in red just looks like every other car ( firsta) , so will try and see what I think at the end , I’m still not sure , time will tell

Unsurprisingly the best PCP deals are on cars with the best resale price at the end of the contract. When you look at the price, be sure to add up all of the costs over the whole contract, to compare with financing an outright purchase. I saw somewhere that the Skoda Yeti is one of the top five in this respect.

With PCP, you only have to pay the difference between the purchase price and the residual price plus the interest on the outstanding balance.- this is what makes those deals look so attractive. As mentioned above, the “fair wear and tear” terms are what catch many people out at the contract end. Of course, you can avoid this by choosing the option to purchase.

I have seen how they inspect cars and you might be amazed at the dents, dings, chips and scrapes they will find, they you were not even aware of. They will also check for any substandard repairs that may have been done. Think what it’s like when you return a hire car in Spain after a fortnight.

This is what I do for a living. I deliver lease cars and collect the end of lease stuff and inspect it. Top tip, get alloys refurbished before you hand it back if they have marks, much cheaper and make sure everything that came with it us still there. Had a few with missing parcel shelves and they charge big money for stuff like that. Make sure it’s clean when it is inspected for return, easy for the lease company to claim it was too dirty to inspect properly and hand you a bill for damage they say has been found.
