Learning to drive an ambulance

As I said some are still sprinters but are changing & not sure when I know up here in the North East we still using sprinter with box body

My sister is a paramedic , she already had a cat c license before she applied for the job .

cheers Mike

Do you do the C1 course in a large 5 tonne van or similar like many others do or do you not have that option?

We use a Medium wheel base Iveco Daily 5 tonne van. Same size as a LWB Transit. Doesn’t get any easier!

All the best, Pete

Hi

Thank you for all the great responses. We have decided to go for just a C1 because money ois quite stretched at the moment so we really can only afford swhat we actually need although we can see the logic of going for the full Cat C.

I think we are going to carry on studying for the theory test and get that done whilst in the meantinme e-mail some of the training providers suggested and ask a bit more about courses. Peter we will be sending an e-mail in the direction of your company  because we definately want to train in an ambulance sized vehicle.

Does anyone know of a clear table giving all the different speed limit for different lorries that you need to know for the theory test?

Highway code, which is on the web nowadays

mrpj - thanks. It shows how tired I am that I didn’t even think of that!!

Hope this helps

Pete

Hazel you could always phone Peter & ask him I know he will give you good advice ( has done for me more than once :stuck_out_tongue: ) he asked for nothing in return

Also check price of C1 & cat C to see how much difference there is

I spent 15 years as a paramedic - I joined ‘for life’ but would now never recommend it as a career to anyone now.

No matter how hard you try or how well you perform your welfare/training/conditions of service let alone the patient will ever come before budgets, performance target or the welfare of managers.

I am sorry to say but the NHS is now in such a poor state it is beyond saving.
