it would be better leaving the campaigns to this site now, as there is more people on here.
Keep England EnglishâŚUse it in the correct manner. There ARE more people on here.

Or their could be more people on here simply because it isnât a campaigning website and the majority of people arenât interested in campaigns and donât want them ramming down their throats all the time.
Just saying.

point taken
Coffee, not a campaign as such, which is why I havenât contacted any of you (mods) asking for backing from either the site or the magazines, it was just an idea I had, I put out a suggestion that instead of just moaning about it on here, people who were interested could actually try and make a difference, emailing MPs or newspaper editors would take up the same amount of time as posting on here about it
Ben, I wonât be writing about it, so youâre welcome to share half of SFA with me, in fact Iâm feeling particularly generous, you can have the lot

Just written to my MP with a slightly amended version of an earlier letter posted here:
Dear George Freeman,
Re: Off road, over night parking for Heavy Goods Vehicles.
I would like to bring to your attention the over night parking situation for HGVâs on a national level throughout the United Kingdom.
As a driver myself this is a problem I face on a daily basis. The nature of my job means that I am often away from home for a whole week and have to spend 4 to 5 nights sleeping in my truck.
This would not be the problem it is, were it not for a very serious lack of safe and adequate parking facilities, not only for my vehicle, but for me in this supposedly civilised country.
Many haulage companies today are not prepared to pay for truck parking, which in motorway services areas can be in the region of thirty pounds a night. Not only is there very limited parking space in these motorway service stations, but they are few and far between, and not always conveniently located - a point that has a major legal significance as you will see.
Truck drivers like me, are caught between a rock and a hard place, because not only do we struggle to find safe and adequate parking, but we are rightly compelled by the law to take breaks and over night rest periods within National and European regulations that are rigidly enforced.
We are unable to drive until finding a suitable place to park. The law says we must stop at set times, or face penalties which would include the loss of our livelihoods for regular breaches.
Currently, drivers are forced to park wherever they can find space, usually the side road of an industrial estate or in a layby beside a busy road where other cars and HGVs pass only inches away.
Such ad hoc parking spots have no toilet or washing facilities, rarely have any places for drivers to relax away from their cabs, or enjoy an evening meal. The continuous noise of passing traffic, means they experience a constantly disturbed period of rest at best, and thatâs without considering the safety aspect.
On the A5 at Crick in Northamptonshire recently, a parked truck was struck by another passing during the night, causing a serious accident with yet another driver fatality. This was one of a growing number of incidents and has become a serious threat to HGV drivers, forced by regulations and the lack of safe and adequate parking facilities, to risk their lives on a nightly basis.
A further concern is the great increase in truck crime. Vehicles parked in even supposedly safe, motorway service areas are increasingly being targeted by criminals prepared to go to almost any lengths to steal either the goods trucks carry, or the valuable diesel used to power them.
We are legally required to be stationary for either 9 or 11 hours a night. I cannot imagine it would be legally acceptable for any office or factory employee to be expected to stay in premises the size of a truck cab without any toilet, washing or canteen facilities. Moreover, they would not be expected to be the regular target of often violent criminals intending to rob them if possible.
Greater respect is afforded to convicted criminals in police cells or those serving time in jails.
While the parking problem is not especially serious in Norfolk, on a national level it is truly shocking, and Iâm certain represents a criminal abuse of our basic human rights.
Our county is home to a very large number of haulage companies who operate their vehicles throughout the country, and many drivers like myself are constituents of yours.
For this reason I would like to ask you to do whatever you can to help improve the facilities available to truck drivers nationally.
This appallingly dangerous, barbaric and totally inadequate situation brings shame on a country that prides itself on its ability to champion the basic human rights of all its citizens, even at a time of economic austerity.
Thank you for taking the time to read my email. I look forward to hearing how you may be able to help rectify this situation.
Yours sincerely,
Iâll let you know what, if anything happens, although I canât see any change taking place in my lifetime.
Dear MP, why is it free to park 50 yards from Tesco, Asda, pubs, Chinese, Indian etc and ÂŁ25 to park 30miles away from these? also why do leisure centres charge ÂŁ0 for a nice clean shower and truckstops charge ÂŁ1+ for a shower with â â â stained walls? Please sort this problem out by reducing the price the numpties pay for the pee poor services they choose to use. Yours Sincerely a driver with more than half a brain cell xxxx
hi all, New to-night been reading posts for over 2 years just had to put my oar in on this one. This problem is the transports compines own making, and MPs know it. As others have said you have aright to be safe at night and they have a duty of care to make shore overnight parking is safe for you at all times Why do you not get your employer to ring their [mates] in the RHA & FTA to overnight you in their yards as they in the most part will have motors overnighting out of town. If 10 trucks from liverpool are on nightoutâs there are 10 parking spots going free insafe places, we used to do this all the time back in the 60s-80s. also sent an email to H&S and use them, to do their job, to work for you.

Thats a key satement Duty Of Care i think another way is if goverment cant aford to to supply parking then it shoul be a condition of moterway service providers trading licence that they make parking available to trucks FOC
and a conditionof planning permission for RDCâs that they have parking facilities avaialble
(with or without red chalk etc!)
Still no response from my MP. Now theres a shock!
