Last October I finished with this one and haven’t been in a lorry since. The lorry itself was ok for a modern bland contraption, it was the standard of driving on the roads today that influenced me a lot, it just seemed it was every man for himself and no camaraderie like the days of old.

Hi trev h you are right about camaraderie in the old days drivers helped each other and would always look out for each other now your work mates will go by you won’t stop to help it all gone as you say Everyman for himself cheers John
John,
Trev Hadley passed away June 2016,thought you should know.
My last lorry was an AEC Mandater at the BRS in 1969 my first was an Atkinson Artic with Gardner 150 on Suttons the day after i passed my test in an old, it was 28 years old, bow fronted Atkinson 8 wheeler, it started life as a flat fronted 6 wheeler but had been rebuilt including chassis, previous to this I had been a trailer mate…Tony.
The last truck I drove was a DAF CF working for Hays Distribution on contract to B&Q, originally out of Dagenham (where Eddie Stobart is now) and then out of South Ockendon by the railway bridge that I think is now a ‘Next’ distribution centre. I packed up when Hays lost the B&Q contract, don’t know who’s got it now but perhaps someone will tell me. When Hays had the contract the vehicles were red with plain red curtains; now I see the trailers are orange with B&Q on the curtains but the units are mostly plain white. We used to cover all the B&Q stores from Lowestoft to Bexhill; I don’t know where the distribution centre is now or what area they cover.
My last was a Renault Premium which I hated. It gave me permanent back ache no matter where I put the seat or steering wheel. I would have preferred to keep my Iveco Turbotech with twin splitter but the cab disintegrated due to the colonies of tinworm running out of metal to eat.

Well you should have climbed out of the bunk and tried driving it from the drivers seat proper like ! Bewick.

^^^^ interitrip this as ,the last lorry I drove was a long wheelbase bigJ with 8 pot Percy , I moved it back in the barn today ,regards Berwick .
Is the ERF yours Kev, it looks great , was it old stock I thought they had the more modern grill on L registrations, still looks the part though
I was part owner of the ERF for a long time Ramone, but not any longer. I can still get to drive it though
It was built in 1970 and bought by Burmah Castrol, it was not registered until 1972, so your correct about the reg.no.
It is an LV model not the later A series. Ps. The 205 ■■■■■■■ sounds great!! and it goes well too. Regards Kev.

Your mean there was , it shut late last year
Well I have learnt something new today, haven’t been to that site since last summer
Thanks Pete, I’ve still got the number plate, it’s on a Volvo now, (my car) The tray on the dash, l was told to remove it by vosa at Carlisle, as it was in the swept area of glass Anyone who wants it send me a pm. Regards Kev.
Recently renewed my hgv and just getting back in the game, but the last class 1 wagon I drove in the late 80’s was a Volvo F7. Remember those days back then when you proved yourself and it was ‘your’ truck as no one else drove it and you would look after it like some people do with own their cars these days? Jet washing it, cleaning the wheels, polishing up the tank, making sure all your sheets, ropes/ ratchets chains etc. were all stowed correctly for the following week and sorting it in your own unpaid time?
