That man on the cb going southbound A74 was Brian Whitlock also called Tartan Twistlock stood in the picture with Big Keith Gornall. Whom l consumed many a pint with over the years in the Townley pub AKA the Diesel Arms in Longridge.!
MERRY CHRISTMAS MR BISCOMB !

Hi all,
A classic image of a north west haulage name…
This was before l came into the job. They had FH12’s ln the usual company livery. I know many a driver who went there and did’nt last 5 mins. Back in 84 there were no jobs about for new drivers.

Now then Flash can’ta see through them glasses. Just nip to Chryston for me in that day cab 400 (rubbing hands backwards and forwards and blinking very fast).
What flash did not say was if you met tartan twistlock on the A74 at that time of day in his F12, he was on his second round trip of the day from Longridge to Ravenscraig and back.

I know where ya comin from LB. he would have been on his no 2.
However l was trying to explain as l passed him at Lockerbie he was southbound around 8pm then again the mornin after he is coming south at hole intwall at 7am.
I remember Nixon used to tell me about 2am starts n all that. At Big Keiths but what he forgot to say was you were still washing trailer off at 10pm neet befoor!!
Remember meeting bollox for 1st time when me n u went int Duke Bill. N he he said r ta oreet John? To which you replied his names Paul. All l remember is thinking whos this idiot in red overalls.
Flash had not been invented at this point. To be fair he took us on when mi licence was fresh outat wrapper. Clive Carefoot told us to come back when id been driving 6 months. (Which l did end up there later)
Had some good times back then cha!
One of Twistlock’s favourite sayings was I was led underneath the wagon last night washing the sump off with a sponge and I suddenly thought of you
Everybody in those days was called John
That’s right John
