Laden testing (report)

I agree with Pete Smythe.

The reverse exercise would be more realistic if the trainee was aiming for a concrete loading bay with buffers. Yes the cost would probably increase, but it would improve the confidence of trainees once they had passed would be able to carry out that task in the real world.

I’m afraid I don’t quite agree, the difficult bit is getting into position to line up for the bay, if your lined up properlerly the last bit reversing onto the loading is the easier part. It’s all about early positioning.
Every approach can be different though so this can be learnt through experience.

As said before not all driving jobs are about reversing onto loading bays, builders merchant yards and building sites can be very problematic.
I would like to know how you can train to deal with these.

Are some posters missing the point here. The test is not to satisfy the examiner that you can do everything - it is to satisfy him/her that you are safe enough to get out there and hone your skills through careful practice and experience. As long as the new driver isn’t a danger, what does it matter if they have to take a couple (or even a few) of tries at reversing into a bay?

Summed up beautifully.

Have you seen the reverse exercise they have to do in Poland? Its against the clock too!

Same here in France. Drive forward through a chicane, stop on a line and take as along as you like, then reverse back through the chicane, stop on a line and max of 5 minutes from the moment your wheels start turning in reverse. And there is 17t in the back as well.

We have EU driving rules and yet no standardised EU driving test …
