Having had the misfortune to deal with these idiots, in Kosovo, I wonder if any on here had the same problem.
Dave.
I parked in skopje once with a stobart driver by the name of kevin who was an ex owner driver and if i remember correctly he had a czech or slovakian wife, little lad with gingerish hair who would be mid to late forties i think. Maybe you no him? Seemed a decent guy to me but yeah there was some dodgy characters doing kosovo but not just on stobarts!! The greek ferries were full of interesting drivers who had a wealth of great stories to keep you occupied for at least five minute
Ben9:
A lot of the JSL drivers come to work at Danesbury instead of going onto Stobarts.
Hi Ben was JSL a big company when stobarts took them over? At one time there was loads of brittish trucks going to kosovo and there was always someone in patras to have a beer with if you wanted to
I would say he ran around 20 trucks could be wrong though, I remember we got 6 or 7 drivers + 2 office staff + their mechanic who went driving with us.
JSL (Janerite Services Ltd) the owner was a guy named Carl and ran the company with his wife and sons. Prior to JSL Carl was connected to DOW freight and did a bit of time with one of the Dowset brothers for the number plate switching fiddle they were running. Carl was a decent enough guy and JSL made a stack of money when they got the MOD contract direct with Hogg Robinson and that is why Stobart bought them.

Carl Burgess used to have regular meetings with General Sir Peter de Billier,(sp),at the George Hotel in Burslem at the time of the Kosovo job.
Ian…That makes sense, Hogg Robinson were under investigation by the Government and Carl got the contract direct with the MOD, hence Stobart wanting to buy JSL…

I assume they left the troops on guard outside.
Not the nicest of places in the region.
In 2002(ish) i used to do a regular run to Athens, as did all the trucks on our firm, one of the drivers was Ian Pugh, who used to drive for JSL and i beleive for a bit drove for Stobart when they took them over. He came from Stoke, aparently he was a big fella, but when i worked with him he was a bag of bones, he had a tendancy to fall in love with women around Pireus, and spent a lot of his money on them.

Dave.
What problems did you have? I not defending anyone, beleive me, but that’s a very sweeping statement, one that is seen frequently on here with referance to differant large companies. I, like many people had problems with one or two of the t**ts that did that job, (one for stobarts, the other a clown from European). Are you calling everyone who happened to wear a stobart shirt an idiot? By the way Jason now runs Burgess Logistics and still does work for the MOD, but then you all new that… Out of interest what job were you on there? Just as an aside, I’ve found the statement below to be true.

That’s what happens when you’ve had a liver transplant due to being an alcoholic.

That would be Kevin Pike, I aint seen him for years.
Last time I heard of Ian Pugh he was working for W.M. Young, Uttoxeter.
Here is some other J.S.L. names Chris Butters, Dave Birch, Whistling Trevor he had a heart attack a while ago, Cyril he was the one who blew himself up with a gas bottle at Wakefield depot, Gerry Gillie he still works for Stobarts, Teapot, but I aint seen him for years.
That was a good job and I have some good memories about my time there, despite what anyone says about JSL/STOBART INTERNATIONAL.

Last saw Chris about 5/6 years ago, he was still on for Stobarts at the time, Rigsby still does some work occasionally for Mark. There’s one guy whose name escapes me at the moment from JSL days who is back working for Jason.
