It would appear that there is some confusion about the locations of Kings quarries and depots. Here is a list of those operating in the 1960/70’s as I recall.
WEST: Craignaught Quarry, Dunlop: Middleton Transport depot and Asphalt plant, Lugton (Beith):Kilbirnie Plant Depot:Highcraig Quarry, Johnstone:Loanhead Quarry, Beith:Reilly Quarry, Bishopton: Boylestone Quarry, Barrhead:Croy Quarry, Kilsyth:Gartshore Asphalt plant, Twechar:Downiebrae Plant Depot, Rutherglen:Lyonston Sand Pit, Maybole: Avonside Sand Pit, Strathaven: Coatsgate Quarry, Beattock: Barnhill Sand Quarry, Moffat: Barlockhart Quarry, Kirkcudbright.
EAST: Craigpark Quarry, Ratho: Kaimes Quarry, Kirknewton: East End Sand Quarry, Carstairs:Craighouse Quarry, Earlston: Earlston Plant and transport Depot: Gilmerton Plant Depot, Edinburgh: Lasswade transport Garage, Edinburgh.
NORTH:Cunmont Quarry, Dundee: Forfar Transport Depot: Newtyle Transport Depot. Briggs, Dundee.
I am endeavouring to compile a history of Kings Vehicles, and if I get enough then I may try to publish a book and/or a web site. Any photos that anyone may have would be very welcome. At present I have approx 60.
Thanks
