I’d have the Mercedes too…here’s one I had on demo last year.

And another…

Mark R:
And another…

I saw one in Fowler Welch Portsmouth yesterday all liveried up, so they must have impressed (or been cheap).

I knew they were getting some at Hilsea (Portsmouth), and was hoping we would have some at Teynham but sadly not!.

I put this pic on the Model page but thought it might be suitable here too. My dad drove a lorry like this for William Elvy from Sittingbourne so I decided to try and build one. Unfortunately we didn’t have any photos to go by so had to try and work from memory. It took about six months on & off but I think its come out pretty well.

Well done Mark looks good to me. I remember going in one with my dad as a lad.

Thanks, i’m quite pleased how it turned out.

I knew Nicky from way back when we worked together on Fred Mumfords of Marden Kent back in 1967. I bumped into him again when he worked for a horticultral company spraying farmland. Then I never saw him again till the late 80s he was working for Tomkinsons…RIP Nicky.

mumfords now that’s a blast from the past, any stories you can recall about the firm to go on the thread?

2010vagabond:
Anybody remember Ken Trowell from the70’s/80’s? He ran 2 Transcons. He drove 1 himself, and Ronnie Wood drove the other. Eventually, Kenny turned it in I think, for whatever reason, and IIRC Ronnie took on one of the wagons himself, and so started out as a haulier.
In the mists of time, I may have got some wires crossed, and I stand to be corrected. However, my original question stands, ie do you remember Kenny Trowell?
P.S., his wagons were predominately red. They were signwritten, and mildly customised, each one fitted with upright stacks, sun visors, etc. They looked very tasty, but not OTT.

Hi i worked for ken when he had three fords one he drove 1 uncle Jack had which i think Ron Wood brought off ken two volvos 1 F12 and 1 F10 mick had the F12 and i had the F10 three mercs his yard was at the top of Blue Bell Hill near buckmore Park Nil Desperandom its still there but devided into smaller bits now most of our work then was out of milton Pipes his brother Bob used to run the office he liked his lorrys kept clean he wasnt to bad to work for

I started on Freds in the may of 1967 nicky was already there. I only lasted about 6 months he was a bit of a hard task master for a youngster like me.But back in those days you could jack it in on the Friday start some-where new on the monday.I did that & lasted about 18 months on J&L Smith when they were in Coxheath.
