Before we all start being stupid about this…Think…When you drive in Europe there are plenty of FREE places to park with decent toilets and showers !
So can 100 000 of us send a petition to govt to get us the same rights as our sensible foreign pals discussed in parliament …Make more free places to stop with facilities.
maybe the foriegn operators should be factoring parking when quoting/undertaking uk work. There is not as you say free parking in europe as the building of these are are funded by road tolls and vignetts ect. if they have to factor in road tolls in most of europe why not parking in the uk . Also the days of the £100pw east european are long long gone

Even the UK has a toll system, all foreigners pay. It’s just that no one sees any money coming back.
On the continent at least, they use it for building parking places.

tenner a day dont go far prob cost them best part of that to collect it . i think you need to change that to all foreigners SHOULD pay it lol. In most countries you still pay to use the showers and toilet or at least the clean ones even if you do get a voucher for most of it back .

Tenner a day is more expensive as the rate for the eurovignette in B, NL, L, DK & Sweden and look at parkings in holland, danmark or sweden.
And a tenner a day per lorry… a lot of very little makes quite a lot.

Yep the parking in Benelux contries is good and plenty of free but apart from motorway servs if you want anything more than a thunderbox for faclities its only free if you eat. cant comment on denmark and sweden not been up there. The uk is not enforced that well unlike belgium where as im sure you know its not unusual for the vans to be in and out of laybys and services waiting to give you a hefty fine if you try and run the gauntlet

Enough paid it for it to raise over £45m in it’s first year from foreign registered trucks, and it was twice as much as the government expected to get from it. they estimated £21m. Be nice to see some of it put into facilities.
yep is a fair chunk of money but to put it into perspective its estimated to cost £250m to build the new parking facility for 2600 trucks at j11 m20 but the good news is they are pushing for it to be a 24/7 truckstop … so still wont be free

I reckon by the time they get round to building it they would have raised more than enough from the Levy.
Although the levy has raised more than expected it is not £10 a day, pay a year upfront and it is around the £1000 mark so roughly £3.65 a day and there are also discounts for paying monthly or 3 monthly, there will be very few who do UK work who pay £10 a day I know we don’t, still £10 a day sounds good to keep the Daily Mail happy. As a comparison Calais to Orleans with a reload in Auxerre and back to Calais is 208 euro which is about a day and a half driving so the UK levy is peanuts really

Most foreigners will pay per day like most brits pay the eurovignette per day.
Compare parking in eurovignette countries to the UK.
Even if you have to pay extra for showers and toilets, in germany, their sanifair system guarantees very clean showers and toilets, I have seen different in the UK .

Every Irish company that I know pays a minimum of the 3 month deal foolish to pay per day when there are such savings to be had, don’t have any reason to think that the EE’s would do it any different

the Irish have practicly no choice but to pay for the UK, as all of their international work is to or trough the UK, and they will be in the UK often enough to save by taking monthly payements, but most EE will only come to the UK less often , most will drive more on the continent and will pay more eurovignette, maut etc. There is no need to pay £ 83 for a month if you only travel in the uk for 2 days every week. There is always a turning point, but I think most EE will not reach that.

This is no different to the Euro Vignette where there are discounts for block payments, you choose which option suits you best.
The local paper is reporting that the fatal RTC last Sunday on the M 20 was the result of a car colliding with a foreign lorry illegally parked on the hard shoulder at the westbound J7 entry slip road. This will be why there has been extra activity moving these vehicles on this week.

Yes that’s what I heard, the hard shoulder parking is getting out of hand though.
It will be interesting to see if the lorry driver is actually charged following his arrest on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. I reckon the CPC will be doing quite a bit of pondering over whether they can make charges stick. If the Bath crash is anything to go by it will be a long wait to hear the outcome.
Got an infringement after getting caught up in the peripheral affects of operation stack. Everywhere was full, no lay-bys, got into Thurrock services at 9:30 pm and had to go a couple of minutes over 10hours driving hunting for a space. The South East is an absolute joke.

There will still be the, " Not in my back yard!" Toss pots who will object to it only then to be shouting from the roof tops about Kent being a lorry park when Operation Stack is implemented.
