i thought it was ok to put it on rest while you were on a bay? im sure i read somewhere that was ok?
I thought same, once I’ve opened up, handed keys over I’ve put it on break and had breakfast to kill a 15.
No intention of doing any other work, or even if at crappy Asda I’ve take a full 45 and watched something on Netflix.
If I was pulled I’d say I’d done above and took a legit break, unless they can provide evidence to contrary I’d be mighty ■■■■■■ as being called a liar !
And for record I have never done work whilst on break at any RDC or site if it’s on break so am I!!
i think that strictly by the book it should be poa while you’re on a bay, but i doubt vosa would make an issue of taking a break while you’re on a bay.
the guidelines for poa say that it should be used when you know in advance the duration you will be waiting for. so if you dont know in advance how long you will be on the bay for, should it be other work? if you were to follow the law to the letter
Try and get clued up on the basics. Keep a track of work times by simply writing times down in a diary and don’t forget if you get stuck, just do a print, all the info is there in black and white.
Truck dash and tacho usually have all the info displayed so don’t worry too much.
Is a drivers hours guard (or similar device) worth it? Or does it just make things worse and cause more confusion, especially if you forget to press the button?
yes you will forget to press the button, we all do. and you will learn by your mistakes. if you look on your app store you will find apps that do the same as the hour guard but much cheaper. really all you need as a 2 quid timer to keep track of your 4.5 and only then if you use poa, if you use other work you can keep a track from the tacho which would be more accurate anyway. All you need is a plain writing book to keep a record of your daily driving which isnt hard, keeping track of your in shift breaks is probably the most difficult part.
if you still want to pay for something to keep track of your working, truckertimer is well rated and about 3 quid of google play store. i used a trial version and it does ■■■■ the power out of your battery so get a phone charger.
