The company said i can practice reversing in the yard which considering the time you get practicing on the training will be invaluable!
That’s good news, as you will learn that the n/s mirror is the mirror that lies!
You can be parked between 2 parallel lines and it will look like you’re bang on in line with the o/s mirror, but then you glance across to the n/s mirror you’re on the ■■■■!
As said a million times before on this forum, if you are at all unsure about what’s going on around you, slap the handbrake on, take it out of gear and do a lap of the truck. Don’t rush, so a limp can help!

Well done and good luck. I don’t think you’ll need to stay for the whole two years to get the experience thing (although it probably looks better on a CV if you’re not switching jobs every couple of weeks).
If you see a black 207 tootling past, give me a wave - I pass the yard every morning.
thanks Eleanor,
will do! you must be local then? I live in Eccles about 7 miles from the site so nice and handy, intend on using the motorbike to get there and back as Eccles seems to be the centre of the universe at the minute!

Must be - I go out in Eccles quite a bit - some interesting characters! I used to work at Eccles Housing Office. I live in Lower Broughton, so not far from Bidvest. I work in Kearsley.

Perfect commuter bike there mate. I take it the meeting was uneventful ?
well im not mystic meg but i got the first bit right i was dropping them in the ■■■■ lol.
i need to go re-check but according to them o owed them a weeks wage due to my notice being two weeks shy! lets forget the fact I have been the only one to make the business work over the last four years! as my mate used to say “your only as good as your last shift” lol
long story short they asked me if i could give them an extra week and I honestly didnt want to drop them in the brown stuff so I called bidvest and explained. I said I was sorry to cause issues so soon but they said to be fair its admirable that you dont want to drop them in it so they agreed- I start on the 3rd of October. Alls well that ends well I guess!!
Well an update and end of week 2. Week one all paper work and a day as a drivers mate. Really glad as ive learnt bit by bit and its gone really well. Quite a bit of paperwork and precedures to remember so its nice to have that out the way. Learning how to play jenga with the cages and dismantle them to make life easy. Last Thursday,Friday and Saturday I was in Liverpool as a drivers mate. Guys have been great to be honest cant complain at all.
Now then ive not driven since my test almost a year ago so the last 3 days ive been driving to the main area of drops then the other lad takes over due to being so busy then I drive back. First day my postioning was shocking, way too much over to the left. However today I was pretty much bang on so im picking it up slowly. The bays at bidvest are pretty tight but I manged to get it in no problem everyday apart from being a little slow but no shunts. Now then I have discovered im bad at parallel parking. Tried in the yard today and I did mess it up. Something I really need to work on. We do around 20 drops a day, sometimes more and a lot of it was reversing into tight arse gaps. Loving the job, long hard days but enjoying it just hope they give me enough time to improve. A lot have left due to being thrown into it so I hope they see the issue and time needed for new pass drivers. I reckon ive got a week more at best with someone else then ive got my own route. Will update next week!!

Sounds positive mate, and I’ve 2 comments. The first is to proof read your post first!
The second is to not rely on them to see you need a bit more practice with your maneuvering, you need to go and tell them!
Don’t be shy, be proactive as they will appreciate your honest and humility. You say that the other driver is doing most of this, so you’re not even getting the practice at the hard bits that are important in that job. I expect they will grateful for your honest and respect you for it, and as a result probably do something to ensure you get the practice you need…
You’re a Newbie, so what’s the worst that they can say?
Best of luck!
Sorry about the text. I am using a tiny arse mobile as my daughter is on the laptop haha. Overall its going well. Hoping to get more driving in tomorrow.
You’ll get given time cause of high turn over of drivers cause loads can’t hack it.
I did a few months at Palmer and Harveys and you got 2 weeks training then out and about to different stores. If Bidvest is same you will get chucked in at deepend but the experience you’ll gain from it is 2nd to none.
It will go two ways…
1:- It pressures you to the point you crack and leave or
2:- You’ll thrive through the challenges you face and conquer.
