Joining a major road - Artic vs Car

IIRC, no one has right of way on UK roads.

ooooooh the cycling lobby is giving you dagger eyes right now…

im sure i remember seeing really big warning signs on the exit slips of motorways warning not to drive down them [back in the day ]

I always taught my kids that if something like this ever happened to them, and they couldn’t get out of a slip road for whatever reason, just to tan it down the hard shoulder till they found a gap. On a busy motorway, surely the most dangerous thing you can do is to come to a halt at the bottom of the slip.

Is it possible the car was not visible to the truck, seems like a bright day too?

You have to know what’s there. If you can’t see to go, you don’t go. As ezydriver above said: you wouldn’t get away with it on your test.

There are blind spots in most trucks,

A blind spot is not an excuse though. Driver’s responsibility to check it before moving anywhere as I’m sure you know.

Yes it is

Artic at fault 100%. No anticipation, no planning for the worst. Car couldn’t move in time as it was being overtaken then it was too late

I have had it when i have been in a car or a hgv joining a main road and i have had to slow down and adjust my speed as the car or hgv on the main carrageway haven’t moved out ,there is multiple reasons 1 they can’t due to traffic ,they can’t as if they do they will not be able to take their exit and they can’t be bothered …At the end of the day they have right of way wether we like it or not ,manners should dictate ,but nowdays manners in everyday life are in short supply…How many accidents are they nowdaus as people drive in the outside lane till their turn off then cut across 2 lanes to get their exit …I try to be couteous but if i have right of way on a main carrageway and i can’t move over i do not slow down to 10 mph to let someone in ,dithering causes accident .i do not want rammed from the vehicle behind because i braked hard to let someone out …It is up to those joining to adjust their speed

Thanks for all the comments. It was such a bizarre incident and the first thing my dashcam has recorded that I deemed worthy to upload.

In fairness to the artic driver, he (or she) did not use the horn perhaps admitting that a miscalculation had been made.

I never fail to be surprised how many cars I find myself overtaking on open motorways/trunk roads. It seems that so many car drivers have been indoctrinated into thinking that merely driving slowly equates to driving well and that by doing so will keep them out of trouble.

How come your dash cam is so jerky? Is it a low quality SD card?

There’s about 6 frames per second instead of the usual 30, saves on data.
I think mine is about one frame per second

I explained the jerky footage in my initial post where the dashcam footage in timelapse mode compressed 30 minutes of real time into 5. I then slowed the clip down back to real time.

Didn’t you read my first post?
