But for what its worth, two vehicles colliding at 50mph is the same as hitting a wall at 100mph. Sorry m_att
read the link further up. Both vehicles will only suffer the same damage as hitting the wall at 50 not 100 as the impact is shared between them

Damnit
I was given the choice to read before posting as well!
But its LIKE a 100mph collision and thats good enough for me. Im not totally wrong
It’s usually within 50 feet of a T junction that this happens. A bit like Jonny two weeks ago who left 3663 at Paddock Wood and came around the first (right hand for him) bend on my side of the road shaking his fist at me! My, how we laughed.
Matt is spot on the money.
Impact of 50+50 in opposing directions does not give the same impact damage as 100 into a wall.
As for driving on the wrong side of the road, had it happen to me once by luton airport, car went the wrong way round the roundabout.
Just to clear up the 50mph vs 100mph thing, two opposite forces would present two opposite reactions so a 100mph impact velocity would be more accurate. However that said there is a margin of error for crumple zones and impact absorbing structures.
So 2 vehicles travelling towards each other at 50mph would have an impact speed of 100mph and the forces presenting would be virtually double that of hitting a solid wall at 50 mph, however nowhere near as much as hitting a solid wall at 50mph if it was also traveling at 50mph in your direction because someone had cast a spell on it.
Yes im a physics professor who specialises in impact comparison shenanigans, either that or im a bit ■■■■■■■ wtf why am I writing this crap… wheres nursey… . ? ? ?
So, after all this analysis, what we are saying is it would hurt if you had a head on crash if your both doing 50mph?

Yep but you would be twice as dead unless one of you was stationary then only half as dead.

You just had to, didn’t you

Hang on after more deep thought whilst waiting for my tribbing vid to stop buffering in another window (relentlessley tapping play like the clappers doesnt help), I have come to the conclusion that with both vehicles travelling at 50mph exactly the forces would cancel each other out and no damage would occur, or you would both travel back in time.
I reckon that if you wanted to avoid injury, then jumping out of your seat backwards just before impact would be the best bet, also, you would be in your bed at the same time if you bumped your head and needed a rest whilst waiting on the ambulance.
ive tried it in similar scenarios when being trapped in a lift when the cable breaks,i just watch the floor counter and at the rght moment,i just jump up in the air at the same time as the lift hits the basement floor…always works a treat and I walk away unscathed…

…driving on the wrong side of the road.Came face to face with one for the first time today and it sure does wake you up.
For a split second I questioned my own sanity and thought maybe it was me that was on the wrong side of the road about to cause a 100mph/88 tonne impact, but alas, it wasn’t.
We were a good 80 miles from the nearest wet salty stuff too, so the lad done well.
88 tonne ,I thought the rest of Europe ran at 40 tonne ,so we’re you 48 tonne contraflow ? Tut tut .
I came side to side with one today. Sat at a crossing and one was turning onto another road and his overswing skimmed my rear and ripped curtain and a buckle or two! Didn’t stop even though I had horn going and shouting but off into sunset he went. No change of following, would have took ages to turn so he could have been anywhere. Probably never even felt the impact but not impressed, neither was my TM!
Is this like a lift dropping out of control down the shaft, when it gets a few inches from the floor you just jump and your saved
However you look at it - either scenario, it’s 50mph down to zero - simples !!
I am disappointed that CF was only doing 50, as the limit has gone up now, must try harder

I think the talking of ■■■■■■■■ has taken hold.
I think that’s compulsory on here !!
I’ve done the same in France and Spain both times on quiet country roads
