Back to the OP.
As already quoted setup fees are £1500 centre approval which lasts for 5 years subject to passing audits and £250 per 7 hour course which lasts 12 months. You must have certain levles of insurance cover, a certain standard of facility and plenty of policies and paperwork in place ready for the auditor.
Trainers only have to prove experience in the subject and in delivering training. This can be as simple as a form signed by a company to say they have used your services and reckon you can do the job. So easily fiddled.
Each 7 hours that is uploaded to CSA after a course is £8.75. So run a course for 10 and it’ll cost £87.50 on your credit card.
I currently charge £40 for a 7 hour course (standing by to be slagged off). By the time I have paid the £8.75, deducted the VAT, paid for electric, other overheads for the facility (rent, insurances, printing handouts etc), tea & coffee etc it doesn’t leave a lot. I limit my session to 10 people (room will take take more) but i prefer the ‘interaction’ ratio with a smaller group. Do the maths - I aint gonna be rich. I’d rather be charging £100 a head but it just aint on is it?
Sometimes I have to bring in other trainers for subjects I don’t know. ADR for example - more cost.
I have been trading all of 2 months and have been visited by an auditor already. he had a few stories to tell about catching trainers who are selling the DCPC without delivering it. All approved centers are now being asked to pre advise JAUPT of scheduled courses 12 weeks in advance. if a course is completed and uploaded that wasn’t pre-advised - a disciplinary process is started. Might be mild to start with but they will be watching. These people selling but not training will get caught I am sure.
I will maintain that the DCPC has its place if done properly.(standing by to be slagged off). Unfortunately many haven’t done it properly - but some have. I’ve never been punched after a course (yet) but have had my hand shaken and been thanked (standing by to be slagged off).
There have been some good comments on this thread. it is hard work to stand there day after day and deliver what ultimately becomes the same thing. Each different group brings with it a different day - but there are only so many subjects. it was only last week I was informed by a “I’ve been driving for twenty years” driver that it’s OK to work a 16 hour day but only twice a week (fixed week that is). obviously i added that to my course hand outs - must be right his TM told him so. I learn something everyday
I also provide non DCPC training such as FLT, manual handling, first aid, crane, hiab etc etc so some times its not quite so ‘same old’ each day.

Why am I scared everytime I post on here?
