Jimmy Morrison and methods of driver instruction

It seems a little impolite, John, to mention that the screen in mine stayed where it was put! But what was with that bracing affair on the roof of yours? To be fair, though, mine was built up with, effectively, a brand new cab.

The ex-ICI Viewline you mention has been bought for restoration relatively recently, by the same chap who has the ex-Graham Adams Rear Steer Viewline (albeit missing its second steer), but I’m afraid I don’t know where yours is now.

Chris, I used to look at that “bracing”, and think, that must be there for a reason! But I never ever touched it! Truly I think that that held the top of the cab together. When you drove over a “bumpy bit”, that windscreen seemed to stay fixed, whilst the rest of the cab flexed!! I chose my routes with care, I can tell you. But she was a dream to drive, I always liked the Rolls/ZF combination, savage bark, quick changes of gear!! and could she pick up her skirts!!!

With the lorry was the complete RTITB log book, every journey, every drop of fuel and oil. Everything was logged. I do hope that the present owner appreciates the bit of history that he has “custodianship” off. And if “my body” has been discarded, well I would buy that back, simply for the signwriting, done by my friend Maurice Partridge of Heath Hayes Cannock. That depicted so clearly my Great Grandfathers Narrow Boats, the Dorothy and Cato, on the “broad” Chester canal.

Big day tommorow, were getting a third cut of silage from some fields, and still baling from the Barley on others, (and hedge cutting, and soon to drill), but its soon the Ploughing contest, at Bishops Wood, so Im away to the Bollinger to sort out my technique!! Cheerio for now.
