Iveco Stralis question

Rikki-UK:
Theres only two things to say about the Stralis- Its underated, mainly by those who have never spent any time in one.- Its not the King of the hill… doesnt claim to be and doesnt have that price premium to match.

are you sure about the Rikki? :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

last time i priced one up, it was a brand new 450 with 2 proper seats, 6x2

let’s just say, i could get a brand new DAF XF105 460 SSC cheaper by £5000 :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

So basically (in non middle of the road wouldn’t wanna upset a potential revenue stream or incur the wifes wrath speak) you get what you pay for and you don’t pay much for one  :grimacing:

Does that say more about the Iveco or the Downhill kettle though Spankers ■■?

To equate it to cars you’re not talking Kia versus Mercedes between any of the major truck manufacturers.

I would freely admit the Swedish marques have (possibly did in the case of Volvo) the better build quality and the decision you have to make is whether or not they’re worth the premium, in many cases very significant, for the work you do.

Having said that about the build quality I do however, find the Stralis a very comfortable drive.

I think the Iveco pile of junk is something that employed drivers just learn and parrot and, particularly among artic drivers there’s a sort of badge snobbery. If you take the 18ton own account rigid market literally no-one cares what the badge on the front is and you’re just as likely to see a 15 year old Iveco still going as a Scania or any other make.

it says that the Iveco is a tad overpriced, when i first started as an OD, i (well, my TM actually) priced up a Stralis compared to a Merc megaspace and also a DAF CF Skycab

the Stralis was over £12000 cheaper than the CF Skycab :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

and now it is £5000 more than an XF105 SSC :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

the Stralis prices have rocketed, but all the other manufacturers prices have stayed pretty constant, this includes Merc, Volvo and Scania

and, upon last inspection of a Stralis, the price might have gone up considerably, but, unfortunately, the build quality has stayed pretty much the same :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp: :smiling_imp:

You could probably make a Eurotech closely resemble the latest model by buying surprisingly few parts.

Their pricing always was all over the place. When I used to buy new it was only competitve if it was Hill-Hire’s or someone’s unwanted leftovers sat at the dealers, sometimes incredibly competitive actually.

An interesting point of view, however I am now on my second Stralis and bought myself a brand new one only 3 months ago at a saving of £8400 against a new 105xf (space cab not super space) or a saving of £190 per week if on lease rental on full r and m. In addition the Stralis had loads more kit as standard.

I agree that it’s not a fleet motor however, it’s a one man vehicle but if it’s cared for, you use the correct wattage bulbs, and have a few tubes of thread lock it is a fantastic well equipped large vehicle.

I am away in mine all week every week and have to say I love it.

The dealer network is ok, it needs some touching up here and there but as ling as you are firm with them and tell them what you want then they seem fine.

Having driven and lived in dafs mercs mans fodens scanias etc etc I would say that the iveco is as good as some of the rest, don’t get me wrong many of the other vehicles are a lot better at other things however for me and what I do, and the money, the iveco comes up trumps

I would say its more about a dealer desperatly trying to shift stock to be honest-
be interesting to find out the list price before dealer discounts

We have gone from all DAf to all iveco because the 6x2 tractors where £5k cheaper than a standard space cab 105,

at the CV show in 2011, i was quoted £75,000 for a brand new 450 6x2 stralis

i was also quoted £70,000 for a brand new XF105 SSC 460

nothing to do with the dealer trying to shift stock at all

Well best part of a month in and the Stralis is a dream to drive really enjoying it compared to volvos and Dafs I have driven in past. In fact only thing I mark it down on is the bed, the one in the DAF is far wider and comfier with much more room for me and the missus lol. Other than that its a big thumbs up for the Stralis ( an ex-daf fan)
