I don’t bother flashing fellow drivers in anymore,if they cant judge when they have passed then that is their lookout

You are awful !!
When I’m being overtaken by another HGV I drop a couple of Km back on the cruise control to make it easier for us both, him to pass me & slot in front of me & also I like to have a clear path in front of me rather than following another HGV effectively blind as I can’t see for his back end. I always let another HGV past me as I remember the words of my instructor in my head " let them go" he would always say & it makes things a lot easier.
My goodness things were so much simpler years ago.Almost every lorry driver flashed another to let him know he was clear(and nobody just suddenly cut in all of a sudden) and the other driver thanked him by switching on and off their sidelights which by the way is far better than the stupid indicator or hazard nonsense.
There was courtesy in abundance and most drivers had manners.
Where has it all gone wrong?
sheded:
Why is it that when you flash in an overtaking truck, half the time you never get an acknowledgment?
Is it that the driver just can’t be bothered, doesn’t know what he/she is doing, or just plain and simply ignorant drivers?
Really annoys me!
Rant over…have a nice day
My reason for the last 5 years is that I can’t be bothered because of the tedium of it, plus I don’t need it.
However, if you back off a bit and don’t keep me in the middle lane for 5 miles, I’ll give you a left-right-left blip even if you didn’t flash me in, because that’s actually much more helpful and worthy of acknowledgement.

Well said Albion - the old ways were the best - and all were more courteous
I still do use sidelights, as it saves the earlier quoted indicator confusion.
I too flash off at night, as this is far less confusing than flashing main beam when you are running on dipped.
It’s fine when you have blinged up truck flash you with the 40 spotlights on the roof - no mistaking that,
but if a supermarket or parcels truck (bog standard) flashes you, it’s easy to confuse with when they go over a bump & the lights appear to flash
LOL @ truckers don’t need flashing in because they should know the length of their vehicle.
I’m quite capable of opening a shop door but still say thanks to someone who happens to hold one open for me.
Every ■■■■ for himself that’s the problem. So divided as truckers now its unreal.
I don’t flash in anymore 99% of the time, if a driver gets his indicator on and sits there and waits for the flash I will give it, if it is safe to do so.
Most of the time I would never get the chance to flash in anyway as most wagon drivers just come back over with little to no indication. The indicator is there to give indication, not to be put on as you are coming back over.
The ones that make me laugh are the ones that come back over then do the left right left right when I haven’t flashed them anyway, just to try and make me feel bad that I haven’t flashed them back in, get your toys back in your pram, they obviously know they are past me, so don’t get upset I haven’t felt the need to flash you in.
I am limited to 52 so get overtaken all the time, I don’t get paid to aid other so called professional drivers who are getting paid to drive their own wagon.
I do give way at junctions if it is obvious 2 wagons aren’t going to get past at the same time along with many other occasions, if I get no wave you get my middle finger. Ignorant ■■■■■■■■
Unfortunately the majority of wagon drivers are thick as ■■■■ or just suffer from overly inflated opinions of themselves.
I always flash people in. When people flash me in, its two flashes of the hazard lights.

I find myself in agreement with this. It’s not about flashing/being flashed in, it’s about common courtesy. As another poster wrote it’s similar to thanking someone who’s held a door open for you, we don’t need it but it’s called good manners.
I imagine the ones who don’t flash or need flashing are the same ones who say nothing when you greet them with a cheery “good morning”, or thank you for holding that door open. Furthermore they are probably the very same who bleat that the camaraderie has gone out of this job.

exactly mate , manners cost nothing
and if the flasher does flash a few seconds early the ■■■■ in front should wait till he feels its safe to move in front of you
but he must then thank the flasher with his indicators

Let me get this straight, if you’re flashed in by a lorry driver, sorry, “trucker”, who doesn’t know what a safe gap is, that makes you a “zb”
Change industries please…
LOL, what a load of old women!
“He didn’t say thanks”
“oooh isn’t he awful”
“wouldn’t happen in my day”
“what’s the world coming to?”
And I thought my wife was emotional!
Reverse your expectation. That is, start from not expecting a thanks, and you can only be pleasantly surprised when you do get one - and that way your feelings won’t get hurt.
I heard from a very good source that it’s the next DVSA offense they’re going to be pulling drivers in for. Fines are big apparently.

I really will eat my hat if that’s true.

Its gone down the ■■■■■■■ mate by the looks of it
I must confess im a bit of a flasher my self and don’t mind not getting thanked. Perhaps some may consider it rude not to thank flashers but whilst im out in the park waiting to pounce on a complete stranger and show them my tackle in all its glory I have no issues with rejection as is often the case.
Oh when flashing the headlights thingy I will usually do it when I feel the distance is safe, ive usually backed off a bit anyway for my fellow damsel.
I only flash in early when passing an onslip and some knob has put there foot down to get in front of me. Makes me laugh when they have to anchor up sharpish as the truck passing me is coming in.
For the ■■■■ / worthy posters on here I have of course left a safe distance by braking hard in the hope of some carnage.
No thanks needed of course.
When I’m flashed in I usually give a right, left left, right right, left then hazards for 2 seconds followed by a sharp stand on the brakes. This is usually acknowledged back by a loud prolonged blast of the horn and away I go, jobs a guddun
