Cheers…still waiting for my provisional to come back…It’s worse than waiting for xmas morning!!!
I agree, had my licence returned but they said sight test was out of date, but was done under 2 years ago, so Specsavers said it was still valid. Went for medical took specs with me (as borderline legal for driving) & D4 form signed by optician, along with current prescription, did book in for sight test using a free voucher, but when I got there they said I didn’t need one . Doctor doing rest of medical didn’t check my eyes, tho it did say to bring it with me and I’d have a sight test as part of medical. Am currently allowed NHS eye test, but not due back 'til the end of June. Have had health problems, but want to now return to work. I think I can bring sight test forward to end of May, or pay out for a test, tho have a form for a free sight test at Specsavers . I gather I’ll need to phone DVLA as I gather sight test was more than 4 months old, but I’m sure truckers don’t go and get their sight checked every 4 months or so. GRRRR why do things not join up!!! I gather maybe I’ll phone the drivers medicals clinic, as the info on their website is misleading.
My Mum has agreed to fund my LGV training (I did offer to pay her back once I’m working), after much pestering, I think she thought it was all driving over Europe or parking in lay bys at night, or it just isn’t women’s work, tho I said to her about Fiona a day driver who was featured on Eddie Stobart Trucs and Trailers.
I gather if I use a different branch of Specsavers I can print off a coupon for a free sight test, and If I need new specs I could maybe wait to order them.

Welcome Nobodysdriving, I used to work for the NHS, in the operating theatre department at the RUH Bath as an orderly , fetching blood, and moving patients.
Part of the job was to be inside theatre watching procedures, knee and hip ops, the surgeon banging hard with his hammer.
The benefits were subsidized meals, use of the outdoor pool, social outings.
The negatives were being indoors and lack of sunlight.
What parts of Europe did you drive to, and was it fridge work or general haulage ?
There are many driving jobs, Gregory distribution have at least 12 jobs on their website.
thank you!
I used to do only fridge work, mainly between north of england, france, netherlands, belgium, germany, switzerland.
I have done a little of northern italy too.
my friend (who is also a truck driver) tells me ‘not to do it’ (ie abandon the NHS) because of the NHS pension I’d ‘lose’…now he got me ‘worried’ will look into it properly of course.
I am based south of London, will look at Gregory, thanks for the tip, very kind
My Mrs bailed out of the NHS (Nurse) a few years back, too many pen pushers/managers/over worked etc:
You’ll have no problem getting sorted for some work, which area are you in ?
Good luck.
Thank you!!!
I am south of London (surrey near jct 6 M25)
My teenage dream used to be to work for Edwin Shirley (now Transam) so I really want to look into doing that
the dream was ‘abandoned’ when my son came along…he’s nearly 20 now so he does not need me to hold his hand anymore

Interesting to see some others bailing out from the NHS (or ex NHS) on here its circling the drain at the moment I fear
Im in my early 50s, and a soon-to-be-ex Paramedic who’s sick to death of it all for all the same reasons.
Im just waiting for my Provisional to come back and then Im off to do my theory/training etc

Welcome,
Let us know how you get on with your training. I left the Prison Service to be a trucker, obtained my Class 2 and ended up in Tenerife (not driving). Thinking of coming back as the pay here is €5.00 per hour

welcome Mrs Mac where are you? I am in Surrey.
Today I was REALLY fed up at work, I called up an agency to ask for work, they cannot understand why I want to leave a job which pays 3 times more than the average c+e driver. I said I was FED UP to push paper forms around and be given more to do but to be expected to do it twice as well as before when I had less to do. Fed up of being told off, being told I need to do it better but here’s a pay cut for your efforts anyway, and it’s ‘always our fault’, never the fault of not having enough equipment or staff, never the fault they never give me a break on a 13hr shift, at least as a truck driver I have a tacho and I HAVE TO have breaks!
Hi nobodysdriving
Im in Scotland, almost midway between Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The NHS just wants more and more from us for less and less. Add to that a society that seems to want its bum wiping every five minutes, the HCPC, some appalling managers with bad attitudes and its all just too much hassle now. It used to be a great job but not any more unfortunately.
