Is This a record?

Like many other training providers on here we regularly advise people to have at least one or more assessment drives before choosing a provider. I couldn’t believe it this week when I was told a guy had booked a drive for midday today and was travelling from Wakefield, West Yorkshire to Chelmsford, Essex for a 1 hour assessment.

After the 10.30 assessment I sat wondering if it was a bit of a wind up but no, at about 12.10 he arrived after a journey of 177 miles.

He did not even want a full course having failed twice already locally after being sent to a provider by a well known broker.

I just wondered if 177 miles for an assessment is a record

I think you would have had to have done a lot of homework on your chosen provider to travel that distance, unless you just happen to be in the area.

I would have been travelling more than that to PSTT if I chose to have an assessment. But having done my research, I booked the course on that basis and travelled up the night before. I remember him saying he had a person from abroad, but am guessing he would have booked it on the basis of a recommendation or good research, as that would have been silly mileage for an assessment.

I can’t beat it. I ‘only’ travelled 128 miles each way for an assessment at PSTT. At least, you can be sure he is serious about things.

Can’t beat that John! (Mildly ■■■■■■ off that he drove straight past me to get to you but I’ll get my own back!!!). But I’ve had trainees from the Scottish islands, Tenerife and, most recently, Melbourne Australia. (I’ll admit he’d just moved to UK but it sounds good!).

I know folk will travel for quality. This coming week we have one from Soham, another from Wolverhampton and another from Merseyside. That’s in addition to the local candidates. It’s becoming the norm to travel for specialised training and I’m not ashamed to say we’ve realised this and make the most of it!!

Many happy people on here as a result. Pete

I’m sure I would have traveled the distance if there were no decent companies locally, as its a lot of money to part with

Certainly a fair way to travel must be a recommendation.

177 Miles ■■? I bet I didn’t do 177 miles getting my C and my C+E combined and that includes the mileage on training not just getting there lol
