I have an ADR licence which I renewed this year (paid for by the company) the only reason why I did it was that it contributed 21 hours (28 hours if you do tanks and packages) to my DCPC, which I now have, which I think makes me more marketable than an ADR licence, judging by the general comments on DCPC.
The extra rate I get for hazardous isn’t worth the hassle and responsibility associated with ADR work (imho) and has probably cost me money as if we have a “local” hazardous load to do and I am the only ADR driver available, I have to do it, at the expense of a distance run plus a night out!
I think if you have the spare cash do the HIAB ticket or even the FTL!, before the ADR ticket
There are some well paid ADR jobs about,. There are many who already have hiab & flt licences who are filling those types of jobs, do they get anything towards dcpc with those tickets?
As a newbie I would expect maybe to start on a bit less of a wage per hour, & hopefully get a permenant position after a while, & a wage increase .
I took my ADR with jmd in ellesmere port & had excellent tuition from dave & passed all core modules, packages, & tanks as well, thanks to dieseldave,
I have had tanker interveiw ,& got to fouth out of 30+ candidates, I went up country for another tanker interveiw, agency misinformed both of us, so I used the time to discuss the position anyway, they have kept my details, so maybe it will be an opportunity in a few months time, the fact that I have a very good work record must surly help , as they photo copied everything available, so fingers crossed
I would say it’s definitely worth doing. I passed my class one & ADR in november. Applied for 2 jobs, got offered them both & took the best one. I start it on 2nd of january. Have been told by the other company that if i decide to change my mind then to contact them. Go for it
Go for it, if you dont have it then you cant apply for the option, its only like getting your Class 1, you may have the qualification but you cant guarantee having the work.
Ive had mine since October, not used it yet but rung round a fair few places that do ADR and tanker work and had some feedback.
The way I see it is ive got 5 years to see if it works out, thats £100 a year, I blow more than that a year on ■■■■ i dont need. If theres nowt down after 4 n half years then I know not to re-sit it, no harm done.
People get meet up and get married in less than 5 years, I reckon thats a bigger commitment than a week in a classroom
