Is it law to strap a brick grab when empty?

Suedehead:
So if you cant grab bulk bags, how the [zb] do you hook them up if your not allowed on the back of the wagon
Would have to be a good shot with the crane to get it through the loops

The way it was explained to me, for the brief amount of time I worked for them, is that you thread your straps through everything before the forklift loads them. Your straps are supposed to dangle over the side in such a way that you don’t need to climb onto the bed to attach them to the grab.

Like I said, I’d like a 10min chat with whoever dream’t it up.

Perhaps you don’t have much experience on HIAB’s then.

Stay tuned & you might pick a few tips up. Then again . . . you might not.

Actually i do,thats why i cant work it out.

I do blocks and bricks day in day out, and right now is a very grey period. vosa have just reviewed the way they deal with insecure loads and strapping blocks and bricks. rumours are going around the yards of drivers being stopped for no straps. ive not heard of anyone being prosecuted for not strapping the crane down, most of us do anyway.

when I was trundling around Eastbourne doing building supplies I never strapped the crane. but now I do a bit of distance and I have a flat with no sides I always strap it.

A crane / hiab or any hydrolic equipment that can move freely when used counts as an unsecured load when not strapped down.this includes excavator / digger arms and slew.

:unamused: why do people resurrect old threads, this is nearly 4 years old. I’ll bet there are many more on the same subject in between but obviously missed.

MADBAZ:
On a Travis CPC course, you must strap it down, however you’re not allowed on the bed or allowed to throw straps over  .

So…they want you to strap it down but you cant get on the trailer to do it?? As for a ‘fall arrest’ system surely Travis made a mistake and sent the drivers on the mumsnet cpc… :grimacing:

Never used a brick grab but all those that do…please strap it down as i’d be gutted if any puppies were killed or kittens squashed…

Always strap it down takes a minute… just lazy tossesrs that don’t , same as the lazy ones that don’t strap their loads down … :unamused: :exclamation:

…Probably for the same reason you read them  .
and also maybe just because it’s old it doesn’t mean it’s still not relevant, and in this case could save someone’s life, and a drivers career.
