Irish lorry carrying Illegal Hazerdous waste

i do not wish to start a i am a better than you,so i will be down in the cellar digging in the back mags ,by the way i have been on the road sice 1970 behind a truck as well, i stand by what i posted and will do my best to ensure that i find
the post in question if its still readable and then scan it,as said before i don,t attempt to state false post this did happen and was posted in the HEADLIGHT mag, thank you

not having a go at you pete.
we are all old timers here[some of us anyway]
we possibly have met over the years .who knows.
but i have heard all these ludicrous stories.
if you do find it,i would be amazed to read about it.
having said that, dont go digging too deep and spending days to find a mag.
its not the end of the world.
make sure theres no steel on top of the mags…

@bigr250 , these are no made up stories as i used to get this mag regularly
and all ways turned to the bad boys page, , as for being overweight the only
way to combat this is make the trucks go over the weighbridge in Dover
with vosa on hand, I have no problems as in germany it is near impossible
now, to get out of a factory over loaded,I did know of a german who used to
load steel coils and then drive over to load groupage for a second customer in Spain, or a food tanker firm that all ways left a customer in Duisburg with
42tns fully loaded when doing trips into BELGIAN Holland,& France,in the 1980-1990.by thethey were also German,
So it is not all ways the Irish,
Try the Dutch either the livestock or foodtankers they are caught in germany nearly every week being overweight, and that is now 2009

pete.
in agreement with you on this one.
i did a trip 3 weeks ago to italy.
got 3 collections.
ancona…2 tonne shoes
firenze…11t transformers
trento 10t…plastic.
i had an 2 axle unit and a fridge.
i weighed out of the last collection at 40.740kgs.
i rang the boss in ireland.
he was sick.
he wasnt told the true weights by the consigners.
got stopped in austria and weighed and fined 150 euro.
bear in mind, this overweight is of no financial benefit to him or me.
got to calais and used the train and ran to liverpool through the night.
none of us any better off.
what would any of you guys do in this situation.
i know there are laws, but with a big SCANIA and loads of brakes ,i wasnt concened about the law for
750 kgs
i was over loading by 10 t when i was a young lad in dublin delivering building materials locally.
16 ton commer with 20 t on board.

Pete, i’m affraid you’ve mis-read my post, I wasn’t saying what you had read was made up I was refering to the truck stop experts and the stories told about the “20 ton of swinging beef with 20 ton of steel on the floor” of a tandem fridge pulled by an F88 ‘back in the day’!!!

Gregg, you’ll remember when Carl & I used to load groupage for Spain regularly and I simply couldn’t believe it, on jamming stuff into every gap on the trailer on a Friday on that industrial estate at the back of Birch services, we’d arrive together at Dover and both be within a couple of hundred kilos either way of 40 ton. I think they used some kind of magic to work it out because there was nevert enough room for a single drum of red on that trailer  Still, with a bit of work we always managed to get the three on!! (allegedly :open_mouth: )

Ross.

Them was the days, Spain every week in me Turbostar!!

1988…15p per litre in river road barking.
prices did fluctuate.
with a bellytank,we never cared.
i could do a london milan using nationals and going over mountains for 350 pd.
it was a great earner.
mt cenice and d roads.
it was a good job then.
i was in italy 3 weeks ago.
road toll all the way.
diesel off the fuel card.
no fun or job satisfaction now.
9 days to do trip liverpool to perugia and back.
no nights on the p in carisio or orte or watering hole on the route.
drive…do your hours and start again when the rest period is over.
give me back the old days.
