They’ll usually just apply a capped lump sum payment in the event of a permanent loss of job situation.I’d guess probably around 200 grand by today’s prices.
The trouble is that if an insurer was prepared to pay out a lump sum of £200,000 in the event of losing your HGV licence, the next time I went for my medical and the doctor said “What is the top letter on that chart?” I’d say “What chart?”

They’ll think nothing of spending a lot more than the 200 k on surveillance if they think it’s a dodgy claim and sometimes even if it isn’t.So you’d have to always be doing a good impression of Mr.Magoo wherever you are for the rest of your days.
Seriously train drivers and pilots have some really decent income protection cover organised and watched over by their unions and that’s what truck drivers should be aiming for.
The stupid bit being that pilots at least now have to retire at 65 instead of 55 so it’s anyone’s guess what happened to their policies and premiums if they were caught up in that increase. The risk to the insurer must have increased exponentially in the over 55 age group when over 40 can be a health nightmare.
