Oh, perhaps someone forgot to switch the lights out [emoji57]

Well done Highways, on the Ball, as ever !
No wonder we don’t take much notice of your Namby Pamby messages.

agree, that smart motorway thing is just money laundering

Ignoring the signs are the reason why it sometimes doesn’t work, “stay in lane” is ignored a lot, people are always changing lanes, the speed limit is ingnored a lot also, evident by the amount of vehicles getting flashed be speed cameras especially on the latest stretch on the M1.
The stretches i’ve used that clearly work in areas that were at a virtual stand still at busy times, are the M62 east and west Leeds area, the bottom end of the M1 north of the M25 afternoons, M6 around birmingham runs well now and the M42, all that used to have virtually standing traffic in the rush hour.
It’s not suprising there are a lot more accidents involving so called professional drivers in there trucks these days.

you could well be right, but the accidents I have seen have all been cars in the last few months, but having said that I had a euro driver in front today who kept braking, first a little then hard,i pulled out slightly to check making sure it was ok to do so looked past his lorry and nothing, not a thing in front of him at all and no reason to brake, probably on his phone

Not a modern matrix sign but a traditional one that I have often puzzled over “DUAL CARRIAGEWAY 2 MILES AHEAD” what are they trying to tell you, a) it’s so far away you may as well go for the overtake now. b) take a wide position so as you can be first for the pass, or c) is it a prompt for the zb in front to wind it up from 42 to 56 so as you are still stuck behind the zb when he comes back down to 39 after the dual section?

I love the matrix sign on the A34 north just before the M40; “to junction with M40 1 mile 1 minute” or something similar. I think “no [zb] Sherlock , I can see the [zb] M40 from here so I can probably work out how long it’ll take”.

They should say “Oi thickheads! There’re two lanes for M40 North ahead, so why do you all queue in the left one?”

Clever drivers don’t queue in either of those… :grimacing:

They do if they’re hourly paid!

If queue signs are activated by the loop system, what controls the lane closures and hard shoulder management on the managed motorways? Is it automatic when sensors or cameras detect something stopped in the lane or is it done by the control centre? Reason I ask is 2 times recently I’ve seen the hard shoulder live yet it had a breakdown in it. Also came across a lane closure which started and finished before the blockage!

ffs,who thinks this retarded useless stuff up? just a waste of money with more waste spent every week employing a cabbage with a hi viz…they serve no purpose, other than to cause ostruction anywhere they go.

All my time this week has been taken up by ignorant drivers taking tacho breaks on the hard shoulder, so called professional drivers who couldn’t manage their time. Who will you whinge about yet again if we get merged into the proposed National Traffic Infrastructure Constabulary?

Well, just move the ■■■■■■ on… no good you telling me here that you (who are you anyway) have spend all week ‘dealing’ with them, if we see them every day parked up on the M25 …

You’re still not a real policeman, no matter how hard you pretend. .

Someone clearly can’t wait to get finally get that truncheon and handcuffs

I’m not a pretend anything, I’m a Highways England Traffic Officer employed to keep traffic moving on the Highways England network. I dont want to be a copper, had enough of gobby pillocks in my seven years as a military copper, hung up my truncheon and handcuffs 23 years ago. It’s always wagon drivers who want to spend breaks on a hard shoulder, car drivers as a rule don’t take breaks where they shouldn’t, and they certainly don’t want to sleep overnight on the hard shoulder!

To be fair Boss, it’s mainly Flip Flops who overnight on the H/S, I’ve seen a few home grown wagons parked up on it, but mostly during or just after a closure or very slow traffic, where they’ve been caught out & can’t fit into one of our Inadequate Service Stations (Newport Pagnell/South, Sanbach, Teebay to name a few where there’s room for about 4 Artics & a Luton Van [emoji57]) So you can’t paint us all with the same brush.

i had to stop for a second ‘45’ yesterday afternoon :frowning: at Rothersthorpe/Northampton services…zero parking spots left, trucks having to park in the coach park.i had to drive up to the council yard gates and park up there.

I’ve got no objection to drivers tucking themselves right at the top of the services exit slip for a quick break if the services are heaving, its the ones that have parked up overnight with the curtains drawn and no lights on whatsoever in a location that’s dangerous with no street lights, they’re asking for trouble. Nine times out of ten, I’ll leave drivers to it, I’ll only stop with those likely to cause a problem.
