I sort of understand filling up the fridge tank. It just takes once for somebody to run out and the policy will change to fill it up after every shift. The tanks I have used it is sometimes difficult to see the level at night as well.
Yeah but would you as a driver go rat somebody out because they left it at half or 3/4 instead of full? I mean the dude ran behind my trailer and as I was about to start reversing, selector in R, foot on brake pedal, hand on parking brake, mirror, mirror, mirror…wait, what is this guy on my NS with his head stuck underneath my trailer■■? He then ran towards my cab - I didn’t know what the heck was going on, I thought he spotted something wrong with one of the tyres or something, and when I open my door to hear him he starts yelling about fridge tanks and goes on a 2 minute tirade about the whole thing, lol. Surely he won’t have many friends left among the drivers if he keeps doing that.

I was going to start my own thread but this one is somewhat related…
I got into an argument with a colleague recently over filling up the fridge tank. He was complaining that it was sometimes taking him up to 10 mins (gross exaggeration) to fill up a fridge (trailer) tank because the guy(s) before him didn’t do it where as if everyone did it it would have only taken him less than 5 mins. He then went on to report me to transport (my own tank was between 3/4 and Full, bout 85%) and I was called in to explain myself LOL I told them sometimes I don’t bother filling up the adblue and fridge if they’re above 75% (we do short runs 100-200 miles max total per shift) but that guy said it happened TWICE in a row that he had to put in 90-100l and he was wasting HIS time. I tried explaining that if we only fill up when <3/4 then on average it’s the same for everyone, in fact it would save time on the whole but they wouldn’t have it

Yes this all relies on sensibilities. With one operator I can think of it is fill the diesel tank up at the end of your shift and ad blue as and when. With Gist they wanted you to top everything up at the end of each shift, cos some nelly had run out of red diesel coming from London!! I mean with depots in the W Midlands, Cheshire and Carlisle en route to Motherwell that’s really bright. Morrisons only wanted you to fill up if it fell below half full and penalised you if you filled up saying you were wasting time!
The main issue is you dont want to leave a truck such that there’s hardly any fuel in it 'cos that’s not really fair on the next bloke/lass turning up to use it. Particularly when relying on agency card fuel and…there isn’t one nearby.

But the thing is I don’t care how many lights you got if I’m doing nothing wrong ie driving up to the speed limit when possible then I won’t be letting you through. I don’t give in to bullies. In fact I’m more likely to let someone by who isn’t flashing at me.
Our Co policy is to fill fridge tanks before leaving the yard and also when returning. I get that though as we have lots of stands trailers dotted around the country as we do lots of drops and swaps at customers premesis so the trailer you leave the yard with could conceivably spend a week or two off site.
Currently 5.5 hours in to a “live load” at Xpo Doncaster, whatever one of them is- boxed hamsters or summat?
Such an inconvenience having a text from office every 1.5 hours asking to check how much of the trailer has been filled and having to go and prod the curtains. Distracting me from the iPlayer

Earlier today I had 28 ton load so can’t make truck accelerate faster, using plenty of exhaust brake to slow down nice and smoothly and steadily, and going appropriate speed round roundabouts. Had some artic driver behind who’s probably empty and clearly never pulled a heavy load is in life, otherwise he’d understand right? He’s right up behind me, as I try and accelerate away from each roundabout he’s moving out to the off side flashing his lights at me. Again when I start slowing down he’s moving out offside flashing his lights. Oh and they weren’t just lights they were ridiculous bully spot lights. At one roundabout I even signalled left after it and moved near side to give him chance to go. Nope just sat behind me flashing his lights. Yes to all the doubters it actually did happen and no is not a wind up. And yes when the straight was long enough and gradient allowed I did reach the 50mph A road speed limit.
If other artic drivers can’t understand why you might be going slow then really there is NO, ABSOLUTELY ZERO friends on the road eh?
All rigid drivers should move out od the way of artic men. These are the kings of the road.
Yous rigid boys merely serve the local communities.
Ok. If that’s your opinion your entitled to it. But when was the last time you heard of a 28 ton load going on a rigid?
My mistake ■■■■ i though you meant overall weight. Anyway if im empty and flat to the matt then i will pass you. Noone like a slow driver.
Even if i was 32 tonne in an i wheeler id rip you a new ■■■■■■■■.

You’re like the bloke I moved out for to let join the motorway yesterday who then kept me hanging out in lane two for ages rather than accepting the courtesy and allowing me past quicker.
Next time I’ll just run people into the hard shoulder.

Some 2hat in a tipper done that to me this morning. kept me hanging in lane 2 after I pulled over to let him on.
Why?
I put my cab interior lights on and displayed an ironic round of applause to his driving technique. .
(as at same time I proved to be the better man by throttling off and dropping back in behind him rather than do the full elephant jobby.)
(Dicky’s having both a minor stroke and a coronary now, after me admitting having 2 hands off the wheel. )

I seem to remember an earlier post showing that daily AdBlue top ups causes a fault?
The tank level doesn’t drop enough, the system thinks it isn’t actually using AdBlue and so throws a fault.
.
Anyone else confirm/deny/find it?
Yup, some makes it can cause issues, as explained to me by vehicle maker’s trainer, confirmed in driver’s handbook, ISTR putting in less than 5 litres repeatedly the gauge may not recognise usage leading to fault logged.
Anyway the fewer people that top it up, the balance of adblu inside the tank versus covering the outside and spilling over the floor may result in the inside of the tank getting more product than the outside
The same plonkers who manage to spill fuel down the outside of the tank every time they refuel.
