There was a reasonable Truck Stop in Liverpool more than a few years ago, it had everything we needed. Not sure whether McBurney built it or just used the parking area,
Many years ago, before sleeper cabs, I used to regularly stop at a small place near Durham. He started out as a caravan in a layby and then built a cafe with rooms attached in the adjacent field. Basic accommodation, but really good grub. He used to take a bunch of us to the miners club for a cheap evening out in his own car.
A week or so after opening, someone stole the mirrors off the washroom walls. He replaced them with some that couldn’t be unscrewed but someone tried and broke a few. He gave up after a year and just went back to being a cafe. I went there one evening and there was a driver ■■■■■■■ against his wheel. I pointed at the toilet block, just a few yards away and he said it smelled so he didn’t like it. What it smelled of was those blocks they put in urinals.
The best places to stay were private, where you left your dirty overalls etc in the cab and your boots at the door. They never advertised and if you upset the landlady they would always be full up when you phoned.
Thanks mate never ever heard of it.
I see they do snap, as far as I can see no mention of charges, meal vouchers or opening hours bizarrely (unless I’ve missed it) …any info?
I’ve got a couple of secret hidey holes in Stoke as it is near facilities, but I willl deffo give it a go if I have a valuable load on anytime…easy to get to is it?
